Re: 6.5 x 257 wby aka 6.5 Wby Magnum RL19, H1000, RL25 will get the initial knod. While I'd like to take credit, Tim McWhorter of McWhorter Rifles has been building this caliber for a couple of years now. I'm building one for a client and ordering the reamer for chambering. 130 Berger VLD's...

    Gunsmithing 6.5 x 257 wby aka 6.5 Wby Magnum

I built a dummy tonight so I can get my reamer ordered. There's not too much info floating around so I thought I'd share my findings just in case someone was thinking about this caliber. Berger 140 VLD's Nosler 257 Wby brass necked up to 6.5mm Loaded Nk. measures .2893" COAL = 3.438" Yes...

Range Report Estimate new zero baed on know know velocity

Re: Estimate new zero baed on know know velocity Yea, 20 degrees isnt going to do much and at 100 yards and you better have a small pin point POA to detect any POI shift. I'm just checking to see where the temp change is to cause POI shift if any. In the past, for me, it's been around 60...

Range Report Estimate new zero baed on know know velocity

Re: Estimate new zero baed on know know velocity One of the things I do is shoot in different temps at 100 yards through my chrono. I'm checking muzzle velocity and 100 yard zero at the same time. I use a Kestrel 4500NV during testing and record DA, Temp, Baro. Pressure and Alt. So far, with...

    Gunsmithing Shot-out 284 barrel in 550 rounds?

Re: Shot-out 284 barrel in 550 rounds? There is/was a very large named maker that got into a bad batch of steel. Very soft to say the least. 2-260's I built had these barrels on them and they shot fine for 1,000 to 1,200 rounds then, poof, all gone. Another shooter I know had a 243 go south...

Gunsmithing Question on pad under barrel

Re: Question on pad under barrel Metal heats up and cools down, yes, even from just being in the sun, it moves. When the bedding job was performed I bet the barrel was cool to the touch, 72ish degress maybe. Now, it's home on the range, pun there, and in the sun. What does metal do when it...

    Benefit of Sniper Fill

Re: Benefit of Sniper Fill Sniper/Magnum fill is just a stronger/denser fill of fiberglass making the stock more rigid in the area of the receiver. Standard fill is softer and not as strong/dense. If you have sniper/magnum fill the glass around the receiver will have a darker look than the...

Gunsmithing Question on Remington 700 mag extractor

Re: Question on Remington 700 mag extractor As few problems as I've seen with Remington extractors it's always been with the magnums. IMHO, the mini M-16 is the only way to fly and what I'd reccomend. The Sako comes in 2nd to that. Both are good and I havent had a problem with either.

    weight fluctuation

Re: weight fluctuation I started at 245 Lbs & 23/25% BF. The diet was going good and I dropped to 210/215 pretty quick but at 205/210, the weight drop stopped, dead in it's tracks. I battled this for a couple of weeks trying to loose more body fat and then did research on proper nutrition...

    Question about trimming new brass

Re: Question about trimming new brass Brass should be trimmed to a length of -.010" from the chamber case mouth section. In most 7/08 chambers the length from case head to case mouth is 2.035" - .010" = your trim to length of 2.025" The thing that you dont want to happen is to bottom out...

Neck Resizing Only vs Full Length Resizing?

Re: Neck Resizing Only vs Full Length Resizing? Buy the Redding Type "S" FL die and comp seater. You'll need the bushing sized to your brass. FL everything but only for a .001" to .002" max shoulder bump. When I shot Score BR I FL sized after each shot, accuracy was there. I still FL after...
