Not two passes with a brush. You coat the inside of the barrel with the oil then fire a bullet with the oil still in place. And yeah, I agree, nothing about two passes with a brush would do anything. But a few bullets fired could.

LL, You are so misinterpretting what I'm saying. I'm not advocating this, only that it exists and you don't have any evidence, other than anecdotal to support your claim that it doesn't work. Think about that for a second. I'm not saying that it does work because I don't have enough data to...

Ok let's take a step back, shall we. I put out a method of break-in that I've never read about. That is called the sharing of information. I also stated I didn't know if it works, just that it was recommended to me by a qualified shooter, gunsmith, and engineer with 40 years experience. I...

That's a pretty strong statement from someone who doesn't compete in BR. Have you, Frank, tried this method? If not, how can you make any claims to its effectiveness? Are you a metallurgist that can explain how the 2-stroke oil and the bullet work on the barrel?

As for factory barrels, well, they're just glorified tomato stakes so why waste the time.

I'll throw this out there just because... Not that I always do it, but I was taught by a world record (seven last time I asked) BR shooter to use 2-stroke motor oil to break in the barrel. He instructed me to coat the inside of the barrel in the oil, fire one shot, then clean with a regular...

Help me understand what a data book will do for me?

I'll just add that it can also be a place to record correct wind calls for different ranges/locations/matches. Oh, and cold bore shot POI can be recorded as well, and often to a lesser degree second shot POI.

Using Bullets That Are Not Sensitive To Seating Depth

Berger VLD's are seating depth sensitive, but their Hybrid and Classic Hunter lines are not at all sensitive and shoot very well at magazine length.

Optics Planet Ceases Sales of High Capacity Magazines

If Optics Planet continued to sell these magazines, they would be in vilolation of the law, correct? And someone who knowingly and willingly breaks the law is effectively a criminal correct? So, if OP sold these mags, they would in effect be a criminal. There are plenty of laws I disagree...

OP is following the law. So good for them. What is bad, is the law itself.

    6.5 Creedmoor OCW Testing

Between 41 and 41.3. This is seen two ways. First, the group's, while not pretty, do have the same relative poi. Second, they have nesrly identical velocities. A tweak in seating depth will close those groups right up. I would pick a direction to move the bullet; preferably towards the...

Reload precision rifle on Dillon 650?

Just to put things into perspective a little, this is a 5 shot group with five different seating depths. I think it's from touching the lands to .015" off with 130 VLD's which are fairly depth sensitive. Also on a cold barrel

The cheapest of the cheap. What to buy?

@ssteve Have you considered putting a nice 6.5 Bartlein, Krieger, etc. barrel on that .308 R700? Even without truing the action, it should shoot very, very well. Would be about $400 for a barrel to your door and $150-350 to chamber in 6.5 Creedmoor (or any caliber), depends who does the work.
