Disappointed with BCM 18" SPR barrel

Update on my sample of ONE BCM SPR barrel - Finally went through a proper barrel break-in procedure this weekend. Sorry no target photos, but bottom line is that group sizes shrunk by about 30% or so after break-in. Ammo that was shooting 3.5 inch groups is shooting 2 inch groups. Ammo that...

Disappointed with BCM 18" SPR barrel

Yeah, I've got some KG-2 Bore Polish that I've had good luck using with VFG "pellets". It contains a very fine abrasive similar to JB Bore Paste. I use the stuff only for break-in, or to de-foul a barrel after several thousand rounds. Seems like it would probably eat up a barrel pretty quick...

Disappointed with BCM 18" SPR barrel

To BCM's credit, they seem willing to consider that I'm not just a crappy shooter... I just received this email from them: Thank you for the update and the pictures, it really helps to illustrate your description of what you are experiencing The following is a guide to "break-in" based on our...

Disappointed with BCM 18" SPR barrel

Yeah, I thought about the mount/optic, but since I shot 4 groups with the brake, then removed and shot 4 groups without the brake, and the results were more or less parallel, I ruled that out. It's not like the optic is going to be looser with American Eagle, then tighten up for Black Hills...

Disappointed with BCM 18" SPR barrel

Damn nice shootin'. I'd be happy if it would just shoot as good as my chrome-lined BCM's... Hate to pitch a $300+ barrel, but it doesn't sound like BCM will take it back. If I can get it to settle down with a good break-in, I can live with it. I shoot mostly steel anyway, so under 2 MOA is...

Disappointed with BCM 18" SPR barrel

If anybody cares, I've posted a photo below... Shows results with my new 18" stainless barreled BCM upper. Optic is a Leupold 2.5-8x Mk4 MR/T with MLR reticle mounted in a (properly torqued) ADM mount. Brake was OPS Inc 12th Model. The "no brake" groups were shot with completely bare muzzle...

Disappointed with BCM 18" SPR barrel

I'm dragging this thread back to life to see if there's any new info on current production BCM stainless barrels... I have a new BCM 18" barreled upper that is pretty erratic. I've shot 5 different loads through it and accuracy varies from about 1 moa to about 4 moa. Some 10-15 yr old Black...

Night Vision IR Hunter; Mako Shark of Thermal Scopes

I'm looking forward to hearing about this!

Night Vision New FLIR -The RS Dedicated Thermal Weapon Scope- 60mm units just arrived!

That sounds a LOT better! When you said the 320 core would be "1/4 the range of the 640", I just figured the 640 data in the chart X 0.25. I guess that was not correct extrapolation, huh? Have you ever messed with a Raytheon W1000-9? That's another option I'm considering in the same price...

Night Vision New FLIR -The RS Dedicated Thermal Weapon Scope- 60mm units just arrived!

Almost none. I played with another guy's FLIR M24 for about 10 minutes one night, and that's the extent of it. I didn't mean to sound like a smart-ass. Those distances just seem pretty limited. I have used ANVIS-9's and several PVS-14's and I can almost get that much range out of them...

Night Vision New FLIR -The RS Dedicated Thermal Weapon Scope- 60mm units just arrived!

So, if I understand you, with the RS-32 with 35mm lens I should be able to see a hog and/or yearling calf at about 240 yards and tell which is which at about 60 yards? That actually kinda sucks.

    Help me buy a spotter?

Re: Help me buy a spotter? Thanks for the input, guys. Pretty much what I thought, but I was hoping there was a gem out there that I'd missed. I'm not a hard core long-range guy, but do have access to a 1000 yd private range with 12x20 steel plates, so would like to be able to have...

    Help me buy a spotter?

There is a TON of info here on spotters, and I have sifted through a lot of it and not really found what I'm looking for. I figured somebody here will probably be able to point me the right direction... If there is such a creature, here's what I'd like: - Price under $500 ($300 would be...

Suppressors Advice? Surefire FA762K or Gemtech Quicksand?

Re: Advice? Surefire FA762K or Gemtech Quicksand? CoryT, Good info - Thanks! BTW, Surefire says that the FA762SS will fit on mounts for the FA556AR... and the FA762K will fit on mounts for the FA556-212. I doubt the vice-versa is true though, since eventually some dumbass would put a...

Suppressors Advice? Surefire FA762K or Gemtech Quicksand?

Re: Advice? Surefire FA762K or Gemtech Quicksand? Again, my main concern with the Gemtech is the vague complaints I've heard about the bilock mount causing some kind of accuracy gremlins. I've never heard a Surefire can in person, but just about everybody I know who has heard them side...

Suppressors Advice? Surefire FA762K or Gemtech Quicksand?

I'm shopping for a 7.62 suppressor to be used primarily on a SCAR 17s, but also want to be able to use it on other 7.62 and 5.56 rifles and carbines. For you guys who have used both, which would you recommend? I'm leaning toward the Quicksand, but I'm a little leary of the mount. Seems like I...

Rifle Scopes Alloy scope base & rings?

Re: Alloy scope base & rings? I didn't realize that Badger was making alloy rings and bases... Thanks! Steve Sheldon's a good guy too, so this is probably what I'll go with, but isn't there another company that makes similar rings & bases that are GTG, as well? It's been a couple of years...

Rifle Scopes Alloy scope base & rings?

I know the info is here -- I remember that it exists from when I was poking around here 2 or 3 years ago but I could not find it it using the search function today... I need good Badger type alloy mount base and rings for a Remington Model 700 action. Can y'all point me the right direction...
