I need a class because clearly I am doing it all wrong

Muzzle tip isn't on the same spot on the background and barrel angle keeps changing so unless those loads are inconsistent and the scope compensates for it automatically, call me a skeptic.

3 Round Magazine Solution for AICS Mag Equipped Rifles

Apparently the ruger ones can also accept rounds pushed in the top while in the rifle if that's of use.

Rifle Scopes Good scope for a .308 Savage 10FCP McMillan...?

My first scope was $40. With it I learned about variable magnification, ffp vs. sfp, and most importantly, you get what you pay for, glass is blue and fuzzy, reticle is a bit off the focal plane.

Rifle Scopes Zeroed for the first time - Problems

Also from a complete noob: Do all this from a stable position, I use sandbags from a bench because it's what my range has. This is how I zeroed my cheap ncstar scope several times while finding rings that gave me a good cheek weld. Bring the target in close (my preference is 25 yards), don't...

Maggie’s The most interesting sniper in the world...

He shoots half inch goups, from 1000 yards, from the hip, with 12 gauge slugs. He doesn't need cartridges, his targets come to him so he can press the bullet in by hand.

    Rifle Scopes Scout Scopes

Hi-lux/leatherwood makes a SFP 2-7 scout with a .308 BDC reticle they claim is calibrated for lower velocities for that rifle (it also comes in a duplex if you'd rather). LEALER27X32BDC on SWFA.

What's the eye relief to the front of the ejection port? Can you post a pic of it alongside a tape measure? I'm curious about a couple dimensions.

    Rifle Scopes Scout Scopes

I was contemplating a ruger scout for a while and ran across an interesting selection of under 9x variable scouts. Of course, the laptop hdd just lost the sector part of the registry was on, but once I get it back up I'll put the list here. I haven't looked through any and can't vouch for...

    advice for a 200+ yard .308

That is a very nice looking rifle, I hope it shoots as well as it looks. Are the irons at least slightly usable with the scope and rings off but rail still attached? I do know sight picture will be degraded.

    advice for a 200+ yard .308

Thanks for all the (presumably) good information and helpful replies. I didn't get the kinds of answers I was hoping for, but I learned a bit about why and that is far more valuable. I have some decisions to make about where to compromise, but it seems any entry level compromise I make will...

    advice for a 200+ yard .308

It will see most of it's use from a sandbag or bipod sitting at a bench. Some shots will be standing (no sticks), some kneeling. I will feed it about 500 rounds of cheap stuff, then switch to a mix of cheap, good, and hand loads depending on what I want to do any given day. I may hunt with it (I...

    advice for a 200+ yard .308

That is why I'm selling my AR to a coworker that will use it and asking questions. I'm becoming flexible because I couldn't find a commercial offering that did everything I wanted after a couple weeks looking, and I learned there's a reason for that from the people here: contradictory...

    advice for a 200+ yard .308

My biggest use will be punching paper, but I also like versatility and have use for a better woodland gun. I know that involves compromises, and I was hoping to get a little better than commercial scout offerings in the accuracy department at the cost of some weight and some more money (or get a...

    advice for a 200+ yard .308

I left out mention of an optic to keep from convoluting things at the start, but I knew it'd come up eventually. If I'm punching holes in paper, why would I care how much I can see magnified around the target? (Seriously, I don't know but want to learn.) When I bought my first scope, I...

    advice for a 200+ yard .308

I almost bought one, and while it'll probably outshoot me, is accuracy not a sum of myself and the rifle? If I shoot 2 inches with a tack driver and someone that drives tacks shoots 2 inches with that rifle, should I not expect 4 inch groups? The reviews I've seen for that rifle come in about...

    advice for a 200+ yard .308

Good questions, more detail from to start might have helped. I live along the rocky mountains and frequently (used to be once or twice a month, work schedule changed that) go camping in them around 9k feet. The weight was picked as it's a bit more than my 12 gauge, the length is due to very...

    advice for a 200+ yard .308

Thanks for all the replies! I'll assume everything listed will meet my accuracy requirements, but they all seem to miss on 4 points. There is probably a good reason for this, can someone enlighten me? P.S. start the enlightenment by hacking off a leg, I use my arms more.
