What elevation was that shot at? No-one I know down here, where we shoot at sea level, has been able to the get the 223 to 1K yds with any type of consistency, regardless of the build. The 308s shooting 155s will win at 900 & 1000 virtually every time, all things being equal..

Thanks mate.

My statement stands, particularly since we're not allowed to shoot 90gr in competition, limited to 80gr - and only certain projectiles, which has rendered the .223 non-competitive at the longs versus the high BC .308 155s.

Let's just say that the NRAA down here is so slow to move to catch the rest of the world, there's a danger they may start traveling backwards in time...

The guy next to me on the line in Oak Ridge yesterday was running a 223 tube gun that he's taking to Perry as his backup.


I've been of the opinion for yrs that a 223 in a gas gun setup was silly at long range (if you can't put the round in a mag what's the point of having one?) but the bolt actions can be viable in the right hands. Personally, I'm sticking with my 308.

Its not a camera picture. The way it works is that the "target" is a rubber membrane with 4 sensors, one in each corner of the target frame. A computer controls the program and the sensors are programmed to "sense" where the shot went. The moment a shot is fired it registers on the monitor with the last shot flashing.

The programs can be written for whatever distance and type of target that you specify. Eventually, the rubber membranes have to be replaced, but in the short term they are self sealing. The monitors are weather proof and you can be out in the rain shooting, if you wish, without anyone pulling the target and marking your score. Great system.

Those puppies are fun to use, but it takes some concentration to ignor it when shooting, at first you tend to want to pay more attention to the target screen then your shooting.

I played with one at the CMP Air Gun Range at Perry during the GSM MI Clinic. They are impressive but pricy, (forgot exactly home much, but not in my budger). You have a screen to compare all the shooters and each shooter has an individual screen. Instant feed back.

The targets referred to are Kongsberg electronic target systems. Norwegian manufacture. We've been using them on my home range for a couple of years. Pricey but nice

I have a new 223 Rock Creek 21" barrel with a 1 in 7 twist going on my trued Rem 700. Can't wait to try the 90 gr bullets. If only I could shoot like that Scottsman.
