1,300 with .308

Furthest I’ve shot my .308 so far. Federal premium 185s going 2550 out of my 20” Hawk Hill barrel 1/9. Hit it on my third shot and then got a bunch of repeat hits. The target body not counting the head is 12x19” Only took 17.4mils and 2mils wind! Lol

Not a clue, I hardly ever check. I generally run the same hard data card written out on my arm all year round. I go zero, make note if it’s shifted a couple tenths one way or the other, and then get to it.

Yeah it’s at GTI in South Carolina, it’s a 10 story tower. Certainly have to be mindful of the lines if shooting off some of the lower floors, or high angle stuff.

It wasn’t really easy but certainly repeatable.

I wish the picture of the 175 SMK or 155 Scenar stuck in a soup can was still on here. A guy was shooting a 308 at roughly 1800 IIRC. I don't think that was the target he was shooting at though.

Thats a good poke. I shot my DD Delta 5 with 20inch barrel to 1,300 with 168 SMK's via Australian ammo. Good cheap ammo. Most of the time we needed 175's to go 1,300.

My buddy launched a bunch of 168’s Saturday at the 1250 plate and was skinning the edges a lot but no solid hits, our 10-20 mph winds were not making it easy for him.
The 6.5’s, 7mm and 338 sure made things easier.

Its strange, cant do it with my other 308's. DD made one hell of a barrel. Maybe I got lucky but this gun is a laser. I have an FN SPR with 24inch barrel and RPR, neither will push the 168's like this bad boy. The gun also like the FGGM 175's just fine.

Every once in a while the blind squirrel .......

Faster twist barrels seem to play nicer with 168s from what I have seen. It's kind of a finicky pill. Have seen many of them banging steel out to 1200ish. Shot with a guy (hide member back in yesterdecade) that could smoke any target he had with 168s but I couldn't get them to run to save my life.

The barrel its a 1/10 twist so not out of the norm. Those twist rates in my experience are a good piece of information, but barrels can surprise. Ie I have 1/9 .223 that shoots 80 grain SMK's just fine. Peeps say 1/9 wont shoot heavies but mine does.

If you want to stretch the 308, pick up some 155grn lapua scenars, they have the same bc as a 175 smk but can be pushed to around 2900 out of a 24-26" tube.
