Rifle Scopes 1-4x Scope for .223 Ar15

First off, Whats up Snipershide!? Haha 1st post here I'm selling off my Aimpoint Comp Ml2 in a LT-150 Mount and wanting some sort of magnified optic. I have been looking at the Burris Tac30 and the Leupold Mod 1 AR 1.5-4x with the Firedot reticle. I'm wanting to spend around 400$ on the scope and the mount will either be a ADM or Larue SPR. I am new to scopes.. not gonna lie. My needs for shooting are mainly 10-200yds and I have access to the 600 yd range as well. Are these two a good choice? Others you might suggest? I do like the fact that the Leupold has .1 mil adjustments vs the Burris. I dont HAVE to have illuminated reticle.. but its a bonus. I really do not wanna go over 400$ because the mount is gonna run me almost another 200$.

I have a Vortex Viper PST 1-4 in a ADM Recon mount, really happy with the setup.
The Viper is around 475.00.

I shoot combat matches with my 14.5 Carbine and my Trrjicon Tri-power Reflex site. You can engage mansize targets at 600yds with no mag it just takes a bit of effort... a 4x will just make it that much easier...

I have used mine out to 650 on man sized steel, just hard to spot hits on a dirty target or misses @ 4x.
Most of the time I have my other rifle with a 16x magnification scope to spot shot placement on steel.
I need a good spotting scope.

I located a burris tac30 in a pepr mount for 325. Its between that or buyin a leupold mod 1 ar 1-4x for 400 plus mount. Firedot reticle.

I run a Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 on my AR15. And this scope sat on my large frame AR before that. It has proven to be an excellent scope that I was able to reach out to a 2 moa target at 1200 yard when it was on my large frame. But it does have some draw backs. The glass is good but not great. The scope is not FFP, a feature available on the Razor line.

I like the Burris MTAC and the Vortex PST for that price range. Throw it in a Bobro mount and rock on.

I sold a guy a new Leupold Mod 1 and he came back 30min later for the MTAC.

#1 Vortex Viper PST #2 MTAC #3 Tac 30. I've got the Tac 30 and use it for 3 gun and it works fine however I wish I'd spent the extra to get a little better optics like Vortex. It's not in your price range you gave but the Burris XTR 1-4 would actually be my first choice. Nice glass and "yes" 4 power is enough for 600 yards on steel, not for bench rest work though.

The leupold is like looking trough a coffee stirring straw. I showed him both scopes and he decided to go the cheaper route even though he really liked the MTAC.

I run an ADM with a CMR 1-4x, SWFA has that one on special with the PEPR mount for $329 I think. Glass is clearer than any other 1-4x ive played with, the illuminated reticle is awesome, and it has real turrets so you can stretch it out to distances. I do 700 meters all day long (765 yards) with the 1-4x and ive been tinkering at 800, but thats about the limits of what I can see, and its torso sized steel. I had the Millet DMS prior to and have played with all the other sub $400 scopes, but I settled on this one for a TRUE 1x so you can run it with both eyes open.

Why the mtac over the tac30?

The MTAC and Tac30 are nearly identical, the MTAC has a rotating illumination knob instead of a push button, and the whole occular bell doesn't turn when you change power. It's no secret I'm a huge fan of these scopes, I've run a Tac30 in 3 gun comps since they came out. For a 1-4x, I think it's hard to beat. A shooting buddy has a Tac30 and a PST, the PST is better if you're primarily shooting small targets at 300+, it has a finer crosshair and is mil/mil. The Tac30 / MTAC is better for hitting stuff fast, with the ability to easily engage man-sized targets to 600+, it has capped adjustments so you'll use the reticle for holdover.

For an up close gun, make sure the low end is 1x, not 1.25 or 1.5. Some will argue, but the speed tradeoff isn't worth it. A lot of new 3 gun competitors buy a 1.5-6 rather than a 1-4, and end up selling it as soon as they get some experience.

This would be your best option. The extra $75-100 will be well spent.

The Vortex PST 1-4 is your best bet. Good glass in a well-made optic that is worth more than it is priced. Should you ever have an issue, Vortex has an excellent warranty.
