Range Report 1:8.5” twist in .308?

Anyone ever run a fast twist .308 like a 1:8.5 twist? There’s a 20” tikka prefit barrel I think I could snag cheap enough to make it worth it if no one has had problems with exploding bullets. I figure at 20” I won’t be getting it fast enough to over spin and explode but that’s just based on an estimate.

I have a buddy that has a 1-9 and he loves it, the only difference is it is left twist

I have a 10-9 gain twisted Bartlien. It is outstanding.

I have shot a bunch of 175SMK through 1-8 twist barrels and they shot ok. never had a bullet come apart. Several agencies run 1-8 twist 308 sniper rifles. Supposedly by Litz the extra spin helps stabilize the bullets well into the transonic. I personally settled on a 9 twist.
