I bought a 1/8 twist 308 barrel from aac. Now I can't seem to find a good donor rifle and after talking to my smith he doesnt work on remington 700's. He did say he could rebarrel a Savage for me. Well there arent any 1/8 twist 308 barrels readily available for a savage so here is my question. Could I just get a 300 blackout barrel and have it re-chambered in 308? thanks.

No way I'd pay a gunsmith to rebarrel a Savage when I can do it myself in 10 minutes...especially if aforementioned gunsmith doesn't work on the most common, ubiquitous centerfire rifle action in existence.

You need a new gunsmith.

Short answer is YES, you can have a 300 AAC Savage prefit barrel punched out to 308 (I asked the same question a couple weeks ago) but its gonna cost you a couple hundred bucks to do so.

well at least thats a good reason not to work on your R700, he's a pistol smith.
While I have a lot of respect for those that can make a 1911 work well, stay away from him for rifle work. The skills and working knowledge of a semi-auto pistol vs a bolt action rifle are VERY different.

Personally I would stick with the 700, just find a different RIFLE smith to do it for you.

It may sound odd that the smith doesn't work on the venerable 700...that doesn't mean he's any less of a gunsmith.
I know many gun smiths who work only Sharps rifles and can't do anything on a Rem 700...and like the OP said - he specializes in 1911's. Don't write folks off so quickly ;)
