My new 6.5x47 is going to be done soon and i ordered a 1:9 twist brux when i got everything. I am having trouble finding 123 amax and scenars i planned on trying first so i was wondering how you guys thought the 107 smk would shoot? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, ive leared a lot reading what all you guys have to say but i dont want to buy bullets just to have them sit on a shelf because they wont shoot well.

I have a 9 twist 6.5x47 and it shoots 107gr SMKs great, 130gr JLKs/PBs great, and 140gr Berger LRHPTs great. 9 twist works great in 6.5mm. I'm at about 1000'ft D.A. and with normal MVs of 2700-3000fps.

That's great to hear. From what you said I should be good with pretty much whatever bullet I wanted to shoot. Thank you, especially for the fast reply. I build this gun mostly for varmints so I'm hoping the SMK will do the trick on ground hogs and coyotes until I can get some amax's.

Would you mind sharing your load for the 107s? I want to use varget because that's readily available to me but I can get whatever else if I have to off the internet if the gun store doesn't have it.

I wanted the amax more because I'm going to use the gun from ground hogs and I want to avoid buying 1000 bulleta before I know if my gun will even shoot them well, I want the 100 bullet packs

Sure thing: here is the 107gr SMK load development that I did:

all in Lapua brass w/ a CCI BR4 primer, all loaded to 2.725" OAL, in approx. 60* temps,
from a 21" 9-twist Krieger Rem Var profile, chambered for the 130gr VLDs

(1) RELODER-15
charges 37gr to 39.5gr. MV was 2815 to nearly 3000fps. No pressure signs in any of these loads.
39.3gr load at 2975fps was selected because it shot bug holes with good SD/ES.

(2) VARGET
charges 37 to 39gr test. MV was 2800 to 2950fps. No pressure signs in any of these loads.
Did not test further or use because the groups were not great.

I basically abandoned the 107gr SMK load in favor of a 130gr bullet because I was seeing a bunch more wind drift at 600yds with the 107gr. The 130gr shoots great, although at 2800fps (w/ H4350).

Thanks a lot! Maybe I should get 123s or 130s then because most of my shots are 450-750 but I might try them anyway because I don't hunt in high winds because I never see anything out

Getting around 2950 from 40.9. I'd call it bottom of the high side worked up to 42 with no signs of pressure. Know a lot people using 123's and 41.5-43 of varget with great results

43grains of Varget in a 6.5x47 -- you sure? Seems WAY overpressure. QuickLoad predicts that is 87k psi at 2.80" OAL, 110% capacity. I attached the QL pressure/MV curve for those interested. To anyone that wants to go that high: USE CAUTION.

The top end w/ Varget that I have seen is 39.0-ish (+/- 0.5gr), which is close to 60k psi in QL. You can run the brass harder, for sure, but life of brass and barrel will suffer.
