Hey guys,
I recently removed my action from the stock to add some QD sling mounts. When I replaced it I noticed the action rocks forward and backward in the stock now. I’m not sure if it did or did not before. But I notice it now. Has anyone else had this problem and how did they fix it? Also is there any negative to using the wide bull barrel forend with a regular barrel? Thanks.

Here's mine in a magpul stock. I put m-lok flush cup for sling use. I have the Green Mountain bull barrel on it. It's rock solid. Did you reverse the channel in the fore-end. There's one contour for sporter and one for bull barrels.

I had the same issue with a different stock and action. I replaced the takedown screw with a spare one from Kidd to resolve the problem. Try shimming it with washers to see if it resolves the issue.

Bull barrel forearm with a standard barrel is good to me. Less of a chance that the barrel will touch the stock. This is of course a debatable topic for the 10/22. Fyi, the insert in the top of the stock lifts out and flips over to change to the other barrel(mine does). ;)

I shimmed it with a washer and it still rocks. Still shoots great groups with CCI SV though so maybe I will just try and ignore it.

There is a protrusion in the rear of the stock that fits into a notch in the action. I had mine apart over the weekend and noticed I used a few strips of duct tape to build up the protrusion to it fits the action tight. I hope that make sense. Using JB weld or an actual bedding compound (with release agent) would be better but the pieces of duct tape has held up well. I forgot that I did this when I first responded, I did it several years ago.

There is a thin ledge behind the trigger group. I used aluminum foil tape to build that up to stop my action from rocking in my stock. I got my tape from Amazon. It's aluminum, not the regular duct tape. I have also used tire patches as barrel pressure points at various points along the barrel. My 10-22's seem to do better with a pressure point rather than floated.

I have had better luck with consistant groups freefloating. It is my belief that atmospheric temperature affects the pressure applied to the barrel that's using a pressure point because the polymer in the stock is affected by temperature more so than any other part of the gun. For instance, polymer is stiffer when its cold and will apply more pressure on the barrel than when it's hot outside.

I don't want to pull my 10/22 apart at the moment between cleaning cycle of 350-400 rounds.

Is there anything preventing a screw to be ran down in the back tang? Say a 4-40 with a counter bore flat, maybe a 6-32? And then a pillar in the stock.

I think there is clearance if I cut down an allen wrench.

Thank you Thank you! Going to try this. Just bought a Tactical Solutions X-ring and she rocks back and forth once I removed the barrel shim to free float the barrel.
