Anybody own one of these? I just got one in a trade. It's stainless with the factory hammer forged 20" barrel and is mounted in a FA enterprises stock. I'm curious as to what kind of accuracy these produce. I'm also curious as to whether there's anything special about them other then the factory barrel.

The stock is very nice and is fully adjustable. I think I will shoot it tomorrow, as I just got a scope mounted on it today after I got home with it.

Does anybody know what kind of value these have? From what I could see on GB and GA, it seems that about $400 OS common place for a factory unit. The serial number begins with 257. Thanks Jason

Re: 10/22 target model

I have one in the blued variety. It's a nice, accurate rifle. You MUST have a trigger job to see how good it really is though.

Mine shoots the Aguila Match Rifle very well. Hypers not so well. Better than average with Federal Bulk.

Let us know how it does for you.

Re: 10/22 target model

I owned one with a stainless barrel and tried everything to get it to shoot to no avail. I put a Jard trigger in and that helped some. I put a Shilen barrel on and now she shoots pretty good. Not as good as my Quad yet, but I'm still trying.

I think this puts DOM at 2004 or 2005. So you should have an aluminum trigger group. Current production trigger groups are made of plastic. I do not remember when Ruger changed the finish level of the barrels and receivers. If you are lucky, the stainless barrel is somehat shiny with a swirl pattern in the barrel. Also - again depends on when Ruger made the change - the older receivers were clear coated not painted.

Generally since the production changes were to save Ruger money, the older versions are preferred by most 10/22 fans.

One suggestion. Check your bolt stop buffer. If it's still factory, I strongly suggest an aftermarket replacement. They are cheap - less than $10 and they will greatly reduce wear on the rifle. Here is a link to one. There are many brands available.

Re: 10/22 target model

So I miss typed the serial number as it is 256. It does have the aluminum trigger housing and it has power custom hammer/sear and spring kit. It shoots pretty well, however, I did not make it to the range with it yet. I just test fired it a couple times to make sure it functioned properly.

Here's a couple pics of the gun.

I completely tore the gun down to check everything out yesterday. There did not appear to be any headspace issues, just going off of the fact that there was not really any carbon between the barrel and the bolt. It was fairly dirty inside, which is why I say this. I ordered some minor parts for it, mainly just a bolt buffer, as it still had the factory pin in it and I was already ordering ar and glock parts.

The scope sits just above the barrel and I mean just above, but it was the only set of rings I had to use at the moment. It shoulders up well though, so I may not change it as there is maybe 1/16th of an inch between barrel and scope.

I'll keep up with this and we'll see if it was as accurate as my last 10/22. I'm not sure it will be, but it was not factory. Thanks for the input and the links.

Re: 10/22 target model

My last one was built by me, I guess you could say. Bought a stainless at the local pawn shop, replaced just about everything, except the trigger setup as it felt really good and I suspect someone had already done something to it.
Butler Creek 20" barrel
Boyd's Tacticool stock
Put on a Leapers 6-24X50 mildot with decent rings and rail
It shot exceptionally well I thought, especially for cheap Walmart bulk ammo.

Re: 10/22 target model

Nice one!
The old ones were built better and have some cool factor with a genuine finish to them.

I've mis-filed the chart, but the Ruger factory target bbl has a chamber which is about halfway between the very long Sporter and the auto-match Bentz.

It'll still run darn near most any ammo, shrink the std 25yd 3/4" group to 1/2", but if you want 1/4" you'll need to get the chamber reworked.
