Just rebarreled my 243 with a 7.5 twist. Been trying H4350 for the first time with 107 SMK's and 105 Amax and basically it shoots like crap. Anyone got a favorite load or powder recommendation? I am also wanting to try 115 DTAC's anyone know where to buy them in smaller lots that 500. I don't think I want to own that many if they don't shoot. I'm shooting a AICS magazine so I am limited to 2.89 OAL, anybody know if DTAC's will work at that lenght or shorter?

Thanks, Double L

DL,

N-560 or N165 with WLR primers. I'm loading DTACs to 2.850", so you should be good to go at magazine length. They like some jump. Sort the either bullet by ogive length, they usually vary enough for it to matter. Buy the 500.

Doc,

How fast are you pushing the DTAC's... I'm shooting a 24" barrel with a brake. Any preference witht he two powders you listed? I have never used either. Does one meter better than the other?

Thanks.. Double L

I have had really good results with 115 DTAC's & 47.5 grs. Retumbo. 47.2 grs. RL 25 also worked well. You could start around 40.8 grs. H4350 & work up.

Dar, you using IMR 4350 or H4350 ?

40 grs sounds a little hot for H4350? Hodgen's book shows 37.5 gr as a max load with 107 SMK. Maybe that was my problem with my loads. Might not have been pushing them hard enough.

Re: 107 SMK and 115 DTAC Loads

I use 42.2grns of H4350 with BN 115 DTACs and it shoots great from my GAP .243.

ETA: Getting 2995fps from a 27" barrel.

Double L,

Out of a 30" barrel, between 2950 and 3000 with N-165. N-560 gives 3100-3150. Out of my 27" barrel, about 100f/s slower for either powder. Accuracy is good with either one when you find the node. You may lose another 100f/s with 24", just depends upon your barrel.

I've changed over to N-165 at HR so I stay under the speed limit. I moly the bullets, I'd recommend moly or BN. Seems to have improved the barrel life and helps maintain accuracy on 60 shot strings.
