Whatever happened to it that Savage stopped making it ? and what is the big deal with the 5R 1 in 11.25 twist , compared to the present 1 in 10 ? Is Savage still producing it ? Perhaps someone can share some light on that ... thanks

That's where I kept seeing them for a while. Is yours the gun he's talking about or the other version AXE?

The Savage 5R and its variants are not listed on Savage's website, just like how the Remington 5R is not listed on Remington's website. Savage's model number for the 5R HS Precision is 19056. I believe it is still available.

Well, if they don`t list it , how are they going to sell them ? this is weird . I think that the Remington 5R version is stainless steel , which I don`t like . I don`t like shiny guns .

Re: 10FCP 5R HS-Precision stock

Well, guys, I found it ... I found one of those Savage 5rs ... it is a new on the box .308 10FCP 5R with a 24" fluted barrel and factory threaded and installed muzzle brake . It comes with the 1 in 11.25" twist rifling and the HS-Precision stock , AND , the release bolt is on top , so I can upgrade to a DBM without problems , aftermarket stock , etc etc .
But there is a trade off (there is always a trade in everything)... it is right handed . So I went ahead and bought it , anyway . I have used right handed rifles all my life so I am used to it ... I even operate the bolt with my right hand better than with my left ... I was thinking on finally making the push and getting me a lefty rifle , but this chance came along and I acted on it . Also the fact that parts and upgrades are not easy to obtain for left hand rifles is something to think about it . For example : I was searching for a left hand bolt handle for the Savage 10 series and cut not find any anywhere ... it took me 2 minutes to find and to buy the Tactical Works bolt handle RH in $45.00 and they still have some left .
Now I have the Karsten cheekpiece (A) and the bolt handle on the way , plus I have a Larue LT706 bipod (a Harris bipod with a picatinny lock system , very much like the one from the Atlas) from my AR-15 and I never used the damn thing so I am going to mount it on the stock with a 2.25" pic aluminum rail and I think it will be better that the lug/Harris lock , plus it is QD in 2 seconds , which is very convenient after all .
Optics ... don`t now yet . Something decent , not very expensive at first , but decent , like maybe an SS 10x42 or something lke it , perhaps variable... I`ll see .
Anyway , I am happy with the choice I made and the trade off , so now I will be buying some Federal Gold Match 168s to start domesticating this beast.
I guess that the manual will provide me with instructions as to how to break in the barrel ... if not , where can I go to find out ?

Re: 10FCP 5R HS-Precision stock

you could always have AZ Precision alter that stock bolt handle. they just had a sale. and you could swap that receiver for a lefty one too and/or buy a 5R aftermarket match grade something and screw it into a stevens receiver. but the point is you got a rifle, now you can shoot.

Re: 10FCP 5R HS-Precision stock

Just curious... If you have shot right handed your whole life, why change now? I too am left handed and shoot right handed bolt actions. To pick up a left handed one feels completely foreign.

Re: 10FCP 5R HS-Precision stock

You know ... that was one of the things that also made easier to order the RH rifle ... I thought that , since I am lefty and I shoot on my left shoulder , it would be nice if I finally got a left action rifle that would be easier (technically speaking) to operate by me, being lefty , but at the back of my mind I knew that it would be alien and kind of backward . Don`t get me wrong , I would have got the left model if the chance of this 10FCP 5R had not materialized on time . Mostly becuose of that I decided to go ahead and get the RH rifle , which I am used to after all , so I am fine with the choice and it is busines as usual with the right hand operating the bolt ... so there you go .

Re: 10FCP 5R HS-Precision stock

I'd appreciate some pics and a range report when you get her, I bet she'll be a hell of a shooter.

Didn't know the gun existed, or it may just have been the gun I bought, though I can't complain, my 10fcp is a shooter.

Congrats
