I've got the XS7 shooting pretty well out to 500 yards. It's light and handy and I can carry it all day with no problem and most days I can even keep all three rounds in a pie plate out to 300 yards from a sitting position (300 to 500 yards requires a bipod to do that, but I'm practicing my ass off :p ). But I also need something that will reach 800 yards reliably and hold 1/2 MOA for the first 500 yards of it, so I've been reading everything I can find to try and decide between a 10fcp-k and a 700P. But the only place I can even find a 10fcp-k in stock or at the distributor wants $1032 for it, and considering the last one I looked at in November was $730 that ain't gonna happen.

At one of the local Dicks Sporting Goods I looked at a plain old 10fp in December, just like all the other 10fps I've seen, except it had a detachable mag and was running only $669. I wish I'd jumped on it then, but I didn't. So now I'm looking for one and I can't find a model number for the 10fp with a DBM anywhere. Dicks had no idea ... they said "It's a 10fp, that's all I know." I sent an email to Savage but haven't gotten anything back yet, and I've burned the web up for hours to find another one or at least find out about it. Nothing. It's as if it never existed, but I know I handled it and talked with the sales guy about the fact that it had a staggered DBM but was otherwise a regular 10fp.

Anyone else seen one? Anyone know what the Savage item number is? Anyone know where there is one for sale?

Check gun broker. I picked up a new in the box 10FLCP-K for under $690.00 just last week. BTW - very nice rifle. Wasn't sure about the fluted barrel, but now that I've got it I pretty impressed. Every bit as good as the Rem 700 .300WM Custom I just sold.

Re: 10fp with det mag ... need more info.

ok, here you go. 10 fp is usually a blind mag. its a great candidate for CDI botton metal and have 10 round mags for it. next is the 10fcp, which is the model that has a factory 4 round detachable mag. you can buy 9 round mags for it and they just work like factory 4 rounders do. you can get this with a McMillan or HS Precision stock. also there are more models popping up with the choate A5 look-a-like as a factory option.

now savage gets tricky, i believe the 10 flcp-k is the accustock, fluted and brake barreled model. now with that, you better like the stock, cause thats the accustock and yourt rpaying extra for it and there is no aftermarket model for the accustock receiver.

so what you want is the 10fcp for a plain factory plastic stock or the 10fcp-hs or 10fcp-mc for a nicer stock, or get the choate copy, its been pretty well liked

Re: 10fp with det mag ... need more info.

I guess I should have been more clear. This wasn't the 10fp with the HS Precision or the McMillan or even the Savage Accustock. It was literally a plain old 10fp with the 24" 1:10 twist bull barrel and with the slightly beaver-tailed non-Accustock. It just happened to have a DBM and a Tasco World Class 1-9x44 scope with the package. I'd been reading thru the Savage site and catalog and digging up everything I could find on the Savage LE models, and the Dicks gun desk manager was also pretty Savage savvy and he too was surprised when it came in with the DBM. I am seriously kicking myself in the ass for not buying it, now that Savage prices are getting a bit steeper.

Didn't think about GunBroker or GunsAmerica. I'll check that out.

I liked the feel of the Remington 700P and I'm sure it will shoot. But Remington has bent me over a time or twelve in the last couple of years and I'm no longer a Big Green Cheerleader. With Savage prices now catching up to Remmy it does make the choices tougher, however.

Thanks for all the info! Much appreciated.

Re: 10fp with det mag ... need more info.

Well, the email was kicked back as undeliverable and Savage does not currently offer an email address for customer service. I'll give them a call tomorrow but I don't anticipate making much headway unless I can get to a technical or marketing guy who is familiar with that specific package.

Re: 10fp with det mag ... need more info.

i think what your after is just the 10fcp. period. 10fcp. the scope wasnt part of a package that ive seen, but its not listed on the site anymore. but, the version with the choate a5 copy was never listed either. im sure there are models out there, tell your dealer to look for the 10fcp. get the choate tactical if you can, its better than the factory stock. look on savage for the 10 precision carbine. thats as close as you will see to what you were looking for without going with the HS or McM stock upgrade

how about this?? there are others for sale here too

plus there are a few over on sniper central...

it looks like if your going to find it, it will be in stock in some wholesalers inventory cause all the new models are out and the only fcp to be found is the HS or McM stock or the PC, or folding choate. have your guy try simmons or jerrys sports center. they will have stuff in stock somewhere across the us and can get it to you. if you want the cdi, just buy the simply 10fp.

I live in the Pittsburgh area, and I too have seen the package you speak of. I've been to two separate locations and each package is different. One appeared to be a 10FP with the crappy Tasco scope, DBM, and 24" heavy barrel. The other was a 10FP with crappy scope, DBM, and a 24" fluted heavy barrel. Both were $699 and both definitely had a DBM. Neither had a muzzle break or Accustock. Is this a good deal? I'm sure I could sell the Tasco scope and rings for $50 or so, bringing the grand total to $650 + tax. Should I go with the smooth or fluted heavy barrel? Any insight would be appreciated.
