Well I ordered my Milspec 5R in 308, now it's time for a scope... my question is what is more ideal a 10x or 20x scope. I had a 6.5-20x50 Leupold before, I liked it but it was heavy and very big, I read all of the time of people and military using 10x scopes...

For a smaller profile, cost, etc.. Is a 10x ok for shooting 800-1000yrds or do I really need to go with a larger scope. I rarely ever shot my old one on 20x. I am looking at a Nightforce 3-15 or Leupold 3.5-10, or should I condsider something like 5.5-22 or 6.5-20?? Appreciate any input

Additionally: for Rings.. Seekins, Badger or nightforce??

im sure im about to get jumped on but personally i dont care for fixed power scopes at all. for me my rifle needs to be versatal, and no 1 power setting will cover all my needs and be perfect in every situation.

if i had to go with one of your options id do 10x but id think long and hard before getting a fixed power.

If you shoot targets at 800 to 1000 that are 2 or 3 moa in size your 10x would do that, if you shoot 1 moa size targets you might wish you had a little more. Sorry I wasn't in on the hash the other day, but I shoot 1000 pretty often and sometimes wish my NF F1 15x was a little more.

Thanks for the input, I should have mentioned variable power, I am not a fan of fixed power either. I am relatively new to the forum, I figured this was discussed, next time I'll try searching... I had really been leaning towards the ten power for being smaller and trying to save a little $ but without giving up something important...definitely have some insight to think about now..
