115g dtac fps

I recently loaded the 115g dtac for my 243win with 41.7g h4350 with federal match primers and my chronograph is reading 2826 fps...I was told that people were getting speeds of 3000fps with this...weather was 60 degrees out with a strong fog or dew that was kinda sprinkling.. would this kind of weather make that much difference in speed? I am already getting nice shiny extractor marks so I don't think I could jump it up to what some people are claiming to shoot 42g or more..

I loaded moly coated 115s with 42.5grns of H4350 in Win cases and got 2990fps from a 27" barrel. When I went to BN coated I dropped to 42.2grns for the same velocity.

Are you jamming? That'll cause your pressure to increase dramatically.

Temp9 I jumping about 2 thou..Most are using coated bullets so I'm guessing that's the pressure difference but would the speed be that much different?

Im getting 3100 FPS with DTACs out of a 26 Bartlein using 43.2 grains of 4350. I was getting 3050 out of factory Corbon rounds loaded with DTACs as well.

Lofty are they coated? cause there is noway for me if i'm already showing signs of pressure right?I would like 3000 but mid to high 2900 would be fine..

I have a follow up question does the bn coated bullets have fowling problems? cause I have read that with moly..

I never had any problems with moly or BN. I just loaded them as any other bullet and cleaned my rifle like any other bullet.

Hey guys, What is your cartridge over all length with the Dtac? I am trying to see if my throat is long enough. Right now with a Sierra 107 it is 2.765" to touch the lands.

Couldn't tell you OAL. To the Ogive mine are 3.186". I jump them .02".

I shoot BN coated bullets. I basically copy what Rob does - with respect to .243 loading ONLY

I'm shooting 3040fps. But that is a fireforming load in a 243 Ackley Improved. I can see how a regular 243 might not like the pressure. But it shoots great, and forms the cases nicely.

Nope, not coated.

I had the same problem a few weeks back. Getting real pressure signs at only 40 grains of H4350 and only getting 2860 FPS.

Opened a new bottle of powder from a different lot and bingo, problem fixed.

I guess it's not truly fitting being that this thread is about h4350, but I was able to get 3115 out of my 28" barrel using BN DTACS and RL-25. On the edge of pressure but my bolt lifts weren't sticky and my primer pockets were not loose.

In your other thread you said you tried 4350 was that the IMR variant? I have had good luck with IMR 4350 My groups today were just over quarter inch size, not bad for me..That was using h4350 today...RL-25 is one a lot of people use..

It's was H4350.

I tried RL25 and wasn't having any problems, just couldn't get the velocity out of it. I got up to 47 grains with no bolt lift issues, no primer flow.....but 47 grains just seemed like a lot to only get 2950 FPS.

I have not ran DTACs or even a 243, but I do know that chronographs are sensitive to lighting conditions. If the results sound not quite right I would suspect t the chrono first.

You may be on to something there cause it was cloudy out with poor lighting...usually it will read error before it shows a false reading but I'll bring it to the range today to double check..I can tell you they hit higher then my 107 smk load which read much faster..

I am running 41.2grns of H4350. Been getting 2875fps out of a 25 inch, 7.7 twist Bartlein barrel with a bare bullet. Shoots great, I assume this is the low node, but I am happy with it

43.5 gr of H4831sc behind a Hbn coated 115 gets 3000 fps on the nuts in my 30" 6mm SLR. Single-digit SD's and excellent elevation also.

Usually Lapua brass handles higher pressures better.

I bought some Nosler 6.5-284 brass years ago. It was blowing primers with a full grain less powder than the lapua.

For now you'd have to try other powders. R-17 would probably be the best bet to get the velocity up but it's a little temp sensitive. H-1000, H-4831, R-25 might give you more speed. In my 6x47L, a 28" barrel was producing 3070 fps with 39.2 grns of R-17.

Something else to try as a desperate measure would be to throat for close to max mag length with the DTACS. With the benefit of being able to put more powder in while keeping pressures reasonable.

I have noticed the nosler brass to be similar to Winchester except more consistent on weight.

I double checked the chronograph today cause the weather was better (more sun) and my speed were consistently 2900 fps..high was 2907 fps...Still would like high 2900 or 3000 fps..

I use R25, 47.3 grains and only get around 2950 or so out of a 25in barrel. If I go higher, I get extraction marks.

Try the Lapua brass, in a 3 groove Lilja barrel, using 43.5 grains of I4350, getting over 3000 fps, by ballistic calculator, not chrono. Bn coated 115's.

Using H4350, I have to drop at least a grain off that, or it's very hot, dropped primers etc. Similar velocities as the I4350.

Both are way faster than the Corbon factory loads, about 3-4 MOA at 100 yards.

47g of rl-25 got to 3024 fps ..high node for me was 46.5 of rl-25 at 2995 fps..I like how the powder shoots far as accuracy..

i hear ya! I loaded some Lapua brass with 41.5gr of H4350 and i get extractor marks with 2880fps avg.
