12.5” AR-10 .308 SBR Thoughts?

All the guys saying no go on shorter .308’s, what about the 13.5” scar 17’s being used over seas with 130’s? I would imagine they chose that platform to run 130’s instead of a .300 blackout for a reason. Any thoughts on this anybody?

Its hard to say for sure, but I would say that really depends on the units, for example, while Seals are generally pretty well funded, the regular teams are not going to have quite the flexibility as the tier 1 groups. Another factor may be that there is a lot of 762 in theater and if 130's dry up for any reason, they can go to 175's or Belted MG ammo in a pinch.

You can only get 20 grains of powder in a 300. Just a little over 2000fps short barreled. The 130 grain in that huge 308 case (Mk319 Mod 0) can handle upwards of 45+ grains. It is a SOST (Special Operations Science and Technology) open-tip round. Roughly 2900 FPS. Only needs a simple barrel change and their stack of 17's are CQB ready. And does it EVER do on number on soft body armor. Loud as crap. Huge fireball. MY SF buddies throw a Surefire on there but it gives a Surefire a fit. They glow red hot after two quick-fire mags. But they love that punch. Only takes one round and they're exceptionally good at that. That's what they're looking for clearing a building, a one-and-done round. It starts loosing it at 200 yards but the 2 guys in the team with the SCAR 20's have that covered.

I'm building one right now for a "get-OFF-my-lawn gun" (LOL). Actually an in-the-truck coyote gun. Those SOB's have gotten 7 calves this month. It's payback time. The Rem700 with the MOD1 does good but it's slow to bring out of the window, I get tired of having it across my lap or laying on the dash. The can for this build is going to be an intense piece of engineering. All 17-4 and Ti 5. It'll have a folding stock and will sit behind the passenger seat with just the handle showing in a scabbard. The yotes are breeding with wild dogs and are getting larger and bolder. If they'll get a calf, how about a lost child in these woods?
Lets see how they like this new "pistol".

I have a 12.5" SLR .308 with a silencerco chimera. With a decent thermal it has been devastating on the hogs and coyotes. Easy to maneuver, minimal recoil and not very loud with the suppressor.

This thread got real larpy real fast. I mean, my SF buddies love that punch too, but what about the SCARs that aren't being used, has anyone pulled fps numbers out of there ass to compare?!
But like I said I'm my first post: 130gr/2900fps
They just loosen 3 bolts on each side and swap the barrel out,, now you are CQB with a can.
ALL the SCARs can run and play. You can still shoot the heavier stuff just fine. Just adjust your gas.
Great room broom.

I really like my 12.5" 308 pistol.
I put a jp percision titanium 3 port comp on it. Tightened my groups up nicely.
I do fine with foam ear plugs.

It is a POF Rogue. Lighter than many 5.56 builds. However I did have issue with it and POF took forever and I fixed it myself.

Chamber was so tight had to try hard as possible with two hands to extract or tap out with rod. I used a 800 grit flex hone until fed smoothly. Checked headspace before and after.

Second the extractor to bolt gap was tight and couldn't properly hook onto a round.

Now after wasting $200 of various match ammo and months of my time with a broken pistol. It performs flawlessly and definitely an moa or under with comp.

Too bad POF quality control is having issues and took 4 months for them to deal with it and by then I was fed up.
I called and asked them to send me a bolt. They didnt send it.

Other issues i had:
put dictator gas block on it and after a while the gas tube pin fell out. New factory pin was so loose it would fall out. locktite was used.
Rail fell off one day shortly after purchase so wasnt torqued correctly.
The grip bolt was also loose.

Not a quality control issue but design wise (not ambidextrous) you cant use a battery assist device because they added extra material in that area of the receiver. This is a big bummer to me and dealing with that through failures was not fun.

Rouge is definitely a lightweight option and I am really happy with mine at this point. Just expect some quality control issues.
