Still a work in progress but almost done. Got the idea from George63 on the hide.

2.97 for the mounting tape
7.98 for the insulator adhesive
1.98 for all of the insulator

First cut a piece the whole length of the stock. Keep adding pieces on top of one another until you get the desired height.

Take the piece of insulator you have and glue them first. Then lay down three strips of the scotch mounting tape

Lay the newly created cheek rest on top and BOOM! Cheek rest!

Still have to clean some edges and add the vinyl top. If you want your rest to stay on more permanently I would highly recommend some sort of spray glue.

I'll post another picture of the final product when I get the vinyl but for under $14 dollars I'm happy!

I'm building a stock soon hopefully. This is just temporary and it works. Not for any competitions or anything but just for fun at the range.

I'm just a kid so if you want to call me a cheap ass go ahead. What works for me may not work for you.

Good luck,

Trying to avoid drilling holes in the stock, but I definitely gave that a look!

We used isomat and 100 mph tape to build up cheeckpieces for decades in the corps until the M40A3 came into fruition. I think what you've done will work just fine, Youngblood. Not every problem needs a several hundred dollar solution. Now say no to drugs and stay in school.

Hell even after all these tactical slings came out we used p cord and 100mph tape to make slings using the one that came on the M16/4.

Yep. I saw $13.84 and thought "man you overpaid".

At least one of my rifles will always have isomat and riggers tape on it. Even though it's sporting a $3K scope.

What I love most about this thread is that he is my age and has reacted very well to some negative comments. The ingenuity and willing-ness to improvise is one thing, and I applaud it, but the OP staying level headed is another. Good job.

I'm curious to know if you can get a bore guide in that rifle and clean it with that foam in the way.

I used the Velcro method just so I would have the ability to remove my cheek piece and then put it back on after cleaning.

Thanks. The tape isn't that "heavy duty" but it works and holds almost just like velcro.
