Our season opens Saturday and I normally use a 7-300wsm with 180 Bergers but, I thought I'd try my 260 with 139 Scenars. Anyone out here using that combo? Let me hear from you and see some pics if you are. Thanks.

Re: 139 Scenars on Whitetail

The problem is if its not a great shot your using a target bullet that will not perform well enough to make a clean kill IMO I'd stick with something designed for hunting rather than target if you want better results. Just my opinion.

Re: 139 Scenars on Whitetail

Don't have any pictures handy but they do work on deer and pigs. The jacket is a little stouter than Berger hunting VLD's so you not going to get quite the effect that a 140 vld will give, but I haven't had to chase or track anything I've shot with them. I shot an 80 pound boar at a quartering angle and it took the lungs and part of the mid section out the backside. Load was a 6.5-284 running at almost 3000.

Re: 139 Scenars on Whitetail

I would be careful you may be doing some tracking. i haven't hunted with them but we have recovered bullets that hit steel plates and had almost zero expansion. even had a few that bent in half and i mean almost a 90 degree bend. if it won't expand on steel i am thinking probably not going to expand on an animal.

260, 6.5cm at hanging steel at 975yds actually, my buddy shoots amaxes out of his 260ai and we cant hardly find pieces of them if they hit steel.

Here you go roscoe....this buck that I'm holding was shot by my good friend just a few days ago using my .260 and shooting 139gr scenars. The shot(one) was 340 meters broadside, behind the shoulder. He kicked his back legs and ran about 20 meters before piling up. The bullet left a 1.5" exit hole. This buck is one of the largest bodied deer I've ever seen. He weighed at least 350 pounds on the hoof.

Re: 139 Scenars on Whitetail

I saw a massive whitetail get hammered last year with a 139gr. scenar at 400+ yards. The buck never knew what hit him. He dropped right there. I have seen several coyotes get shot with the same rifle, bullet combo with the same results. The 6.5mm scenars seem to work better than the 30 cal. scenars. Dont know why?

I have seen exactly the same thing but with the 30 cal scenars not the 6.5's.
