Savage is ok as a range toy or a hunting gun (non trophy).........they are not reliable enough if you actually shoot them.
Guys please stop giving poor advice. It has been proven time and time again, that savages will NOT hold up to heavy firing schedules and I'm not even going to get into the the issues with their bores and mashed crowns that seem way too frequent.
If you think I'm bullshiting you, ask some well known Rifle instructors how they hold up durring a week long course. There are a couple of high respected names who has said they have YET to see one not have an issue/break and make it through a full course.
Why anyone would recomend a MK4 at this stage in the game...........is just mind boggling. There are about 10 other optics that are either VASTY superior for the same money or just as good for much less money. Thats like recomending a Pentium 2 350MHZ Machine to run the lastest games on the highest setting.
More Savage AINT SHIT DRIVEL...MORE OBNOXIOUS REMMY FAN BOI SHIT...
A. I've got at least 3000 rounds thru a 110FP I bought in 1995...NEVER SO MUCH AS A HICCUP...only changes are scope upgrades and stock...hell I've never even glass bedded it and it's still shoot circles around most Factory Remingtons...
B. I can show you multiple instances where SAVAGE not only finished 3-5 day courses but finished well into the top tier against guns that cost 3-4-5 times the $$$...
C. There is a reason Savage sells more F-CLASS, PALMA and BENCH REST RIFLES to competitive shooters than every other US Rifle manufacturer COMBINED...
D. Mark IVs are rugged, repeatable, and have come way down in price over the last few years...YES there are other alternatives in that price range...
E. I am a former USMC 2111 Armorer, 2112 RTE Rifle Team Equipment Armorer, I can buy any damned thing I want...I shoot a couple of Savages that bitchslap just about everything that comes up alongside the bench...its FUNNY to watch a guy scratch his noggin over the $1500 Savage kicking his ass...
The kids got a budget...Instead of poo pooing him and telling him to get a better job, you can't afford this hobby, yada yada...I offered options...real world options...not hindrances...
