Midway has nosler custom competion 155 and168 gr. Bullets on sale for 250 of them for 54.00 ive reloaded a couple 168 grains but i have never shot 155 grains. Im trying to stock up for a full auto shoot coming up that has a 600 yard range, qnd it is only 20 bucks a day to shoot your own gun on the firing line in a 20x20 space and they will put targets up for you. So i guess the guestion is should i get the 168s or the 155s i have q 20 inch sps tactical 1in12 barrel on a hs pss stock. Ive never shot out to 600 before i only have access to a 100 yard range. Thanks for the help.

Re: 155 or 168 ?

There are a few guns that shoot the 168s better than the 175s.

However between the 3 {155s, 168s, 175s} pick the 155s or the 175s {depending on your gun, your loading style, and your target requirements}.

Me, I'm currently shooting 155s. However, I have a batch of 175s standing in reserve.

Re: 155 or 168 ?

"...why do people shoot the 168s if they are not as efficient as the later 2?.."

Shooting 600 yards and under the 168 SMK does the job. It have been around for decades and was favored by Highpower shooters when shooting 308 across-the-course was in vogue.

It is also shot in Europe in the 300 meter matches.

Shoot whatever shots best in your rifle.

Good luck

Re: 155 or 168 ?

Thanks guys. I have shot the 175's before and at a hundred yards the 168's held tighter groups that could just be the twist rate on my barrel? (1-12") but i have never shot 155's and everyone raves about them. So i said to hell with it! I ordered both

ill post some video asap.

Re: 155 or 168 ?

Please post pics of the full auto SPS.

I just finished loading 308 ammo this morning for two upcoming 3x600 matches (3 20 shot matches at 600 yards in a day). Bullets pushed into the cases were 155s.

Re: 155 or 168 ?

Definitely dependent upon barrel twist rate. 155s need a 13 twist for optimum performance. Shot 155s out of an M1-A for a couple of matches in a 10 twist barrel. Shot OK at 200 and 300 but wouldn't hold the 9 ring at 600. Switched midstring to 168s and finished up well enough to leg out ... 14 years ago.

Re: 155 or 168 ?

This thread seems to be mixing Nosler and Scenars (and maybe even Sierra) 155's.

IMO the 155 Scenars are getting looked at allot by long range shooters because of their high ballistic coefficient. They are as long as the 190SMK. But can be shot at much higher speeds. The Nolser and the Sierras are a much shorter bullet. Nolser and the Sierras 'should' work better in slower twist barrels, like 1-13.

Since the 155 Scenars are so long they work fine in a 1-10 twist. I suggest that everyone specify the brand of bullet when responding.

Re: 155 or 168 ?

Sierra makes two different 155 grain match kings. The Palma Match Kings have a BC of over .500. The regular Match King is about .450.

Even if you're going to specify brand, it might be important to specify which bullet.

In the debate between 168s and 155 Palma bullets, it seems that the 155s have a clear advantage. Someone on here said that the 155 can be expected to have the same trajectory as the 175 at the same velocity. Obviously, the 155 can be safely driven much faster, so its potential is greater than that of the 175.

Of course, if your tube won't launch a particular bullet accurately, it doesn't matter how good the numbers are. With that said, the 155 Palma Match King is quite an impressive bullet, for the price--on paper.

Re: 155 or 168 ?

I'd go with 155's but you gotta load them up!

None of this 2600 fps stuff, get em up to 2800 and they will do you RIGHT!

Do not take this load without te sting it but at one time John Lloyd suggested 47gr Varget with the 155, I went to 46.5 and they are sweet at 600 yards...

Re: 155 or 168 ?

i gotta try them, i couldnt find any while i was testing loads for my 26" sps varmint, only found 168 smk's and 150 noslers so i went with the 168's as they grouped better than the 150's
