16-18” rifle; caliber suggestions

I have a bergara 308, debating on trying to trade for a 223 bolt gun or rebarrel it to a 16-18” 6.5CM or a 6mm cm. I currently have a 24 inch Teaka and a 26 inch Ruger and 65 Creedmoor that shoot the same load amazing. Just wanting a short-barreled rifle for fun and matches the only go out to 500 yards

At 500 you’re going to be good with any of those calibers. You’re probably best to look at barrel life instead of that matters.

My 11” 308 is supersonic to 550-600 yards with 135g SMK. Absolute blast to pew pew

I want to stay 6.5 for the reason I have plenty of powder and brass since I have 2 other rifles in that caliber.

but I want to get a different caliber because I already have 2 rifles in that caliber lol.

probably go to a 16.5” 6.5 and keep it simple

I would stick with 6.5cm for sure. My next rifle, I'd love to do something in the 16-18" range.

DMR llc did some videos on shorty rifles. They did mention that sticking with 6.5 over 6 was a better option as your increased BC helped with the reduced velocities.



They do mention switching powders up to something a little faster, like Varget. Helps maximize. I think the 130gr TMK would be legit out of it.

I forgot about 130’s! I run berger hybrid 140s and they shoot great.

How do you like the 140's? I just picked up 200 to try out. I have about 850 147's left but will definitely switch it up after those are gone.

Also thinking about trying the 130TMK's out... I loved the 77TMK's out of my AR

I love them. They shoot amazing. My ladder test of 10 different charges, all shot at the same POA, were all less than an inch.
I had an issue with my neck tensiona while back, you could literally grab the bullet and move it up and down.... I pulled some out more, pushed some all the down into the case.... shot 7 of them, they shot .6” at 100.... doesn’t seem to matter what load I have, they shoot

I'm two 16" 6.5cm's deep and thinking of building a 3rd. I love 'em!

I run 130 TGK in my 18” 6.5 creedmoor. 0.5moa all day long, 2715 fps. Can get out to 1000m still supersonic for target work and yet still expanding for the beasties while hunting.

Very flexible set up & effective set up.
