Sierra Manual 5th Edition

If you don't have one of these with all your new stuff then you did not buy enough "stuff". These books are really neat. When you open them up and turn to the apropriate cartridge reference, they have actual detailed information about "loads". This really is an invaluable tool as it requires no electricity or power source of any kind other than a human brain.

What he said. Buy at least two manuals, I recommend the Sierra for one of them, and sit down and read the first parts on reloading BEFORE you start. You didn't get enough stuff if you don't have the basic instructions. Screwing up when reloading can be painful and expensive.

Re: 168gr seirra load info please

FWIW, I just got back from the range about an hour ago after shooting my FIRST sub-moa 100 yd. groups with this combo (This is also my first bolt action rifle with a scope). The combo is as follows: once-fired FGMM brass, CCI #200 primers, 42 grns. of RL-15, topped with a Sierra 168 gr. BTHP MatchKings. My rifle is a Rem. 700 SPS Varmint with 1-12 twist. Also, I might add, this is the first batch of 50 I've ever reloaded. I started reloading just over a week ago. I'm pretty impressed with how they turned out. Another bullet you might consider is the Hornady 168 gr. A-MAX. I loaded 10 of these (was short on brass at the time) and got sub-moa groups with 40 grns. of RL-15 and the same primers and brass. Groups were just a tad tighter with the Sierras, but Hornadys are $11 per 100 cheaper where I'm at, lol. I was ringin' steel @ 300 yds. with both loads as well. Both good stuff. Hope this helps.

I agree with the others though, pick up Sierra's latest manual. FULL of useful info and it helped me out alot!

Re: 168gr seirra load info please

I believe the mil spec for the older M852 round called for:

Bullet: Sierra Match King 168 SMK
Powder: IMR-4895 42.0 gr
OAL: 2.83

And if its military brass start 1-2 grains lower...

I may be wrong though!
