178 A-MAX in here please.

I loaded up some 178 amax for my 5r and I can tell you that I have not found the right load. The horizontal dispersion is laughable.

However, the same load from my sps-tac is sub-MOA!

Is this due to the substantial amount of contact between the projectile and the barrel? The 1:12 20" sps would have less of an impact on the projectile as apposed to the 24" 5r I am thinking.

Anyone have any input on these projectiles.

It shoots the 155amax through 1 hole at 200 all day. But this one seems to be whipping me.

43gr of RE15 in FL Federal brass and CCI200 primers seems to work in my AR10. Haven't tried the 178's in my 700 yet.

I put 8 rounds into 3/4" at 100. No flyers I just ran out of ammo.

They were clocking 2630 VERY consistently from my 21" Noveske barrel.

I am going to try to ressurect the chrony inthe next day or so. I may speed it up a tad and see, however, it is already my go to hunting load. I can place it well out my my sps at range.

I know though that it is something I am doing wrong most likely for the 5R

42.5 4064 is showing some promise in my rifle.

Fed brass with flash holes deburred and necks turned for uniformity, CCI 200s, at 2.82 OAL went 1.1 inch at 2580 or so. Weighed charges.

Same thing in FA military cases with only the flash holes deburred went .62 inch and 10.2 fps faster. Though the case capacities out of my chamber average within 56.333 - 56.266 = .067 grain of water, that velocity difference is well inside the random variations that can be expected among samples, as well as inside the potential instrument error.

The odd thing is that the FA case loads hit fully .3 mil lower and .1 mil to the left of the FA case loads. Better check that scope mount...?

My new MA-TEN AR10 build with Rock 5R 18.5" 1:11.25 seems to hate them but is a 1 holer with 175SMK. My Tikka T3 Tactical loves both the 168/178 Amax. Just tried 24 more 178 with various load and could not get sub MOA.

.308 26" 1/12 700P; just starting to try RE-15 and Amax 178's. Started with ten rounds of 42.5, ten of 42.8, ten of 43.1. Early results are four of five into one hole (twice) at 100 yards with 42.8gr., Fed 210M, LC Match cases. Cases not weighed or neck trimmed; FL sized / .337 bushing; this bushing seems to be correct for the LC Match brass I've encountered. 2.86" COL for the deep-throated *****.

No chrono. I need to get one.

If it keeps on doing this I'll be staying close to here. This is going to be a mid-range load. I'm the guy who can't get his 700P to shoot 155 scenars. At all.

I doped the 178's and found that 42.6 and 42.8 grains of RL15 is sub MOA with 42.6gr edging out slightly in my AR10 SASS. These loads will outperform my 175 SMK's wit the same powder. Hope this helps.
