I believe, that was the only thing I read about that put the chicoms in a good light.
Reading the book(in the early 70's) "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo", the Chinese rescued and hid some downed pilots of that raid. Memory is kinda slipping, but, that's what I remember.

Nationalist Chinese hid some Americans and at the time the Commie Chinese would have been ambivalent and helped Americans because they were fighting against the bigger threat Japan.

Evans Carlson trained with Mao and picked up a little bit of Stockholm Syndrome that made him a little suspect to some of his peers such as Edson and Vandegrift.

In 1946 during the occupation of Japan's northern Chinese possessed areas there was combat between Chicoms and USMC.

I was pretty young then(early teens). Didn't have the full "Intelligence" on the Chinese. All I knew was, commies are commies. That's how my ol'man and uncles, put it to me, anyways. In later years, I do remember reading about E. Carlson and Mao. Mac

New next door neighbor came over tonight bearing gifts….

He joked about not being able to read the ingredients but he promised they are pretty tame. I said something about Mandarin and he immediately said “No we are from Taiwan”.

It was like a burden was lifted from my shoulders to know Im not living next to a Maoist.

More of a middle finger and "we know where you live" to the nips than a strategic victory.

    But it was total balls.

Yes lets put these landbased bombers on an aircraft carrier and if we rev the engines up to just about redline and get a good headwind we will get these things airborne and than by dumping all their defensive gear maybe they will have enough gas to get beyond Japan and crash in China when they run out of gas.

Raise your hand if you are ready to go!

We used to do ballsy stuff.

You know, I really do try and understand people of all races, creeds, and religions. I've been to many countries though out my mil. career. We all have our customs/traditions, and I always tried to respect that. But, here as of late, I'm having a real F'n hard time doing that. I do not want to live like a communist. Don't want to live in any other country, either. I'd like to think, there is good in everyone, no matter where they are from. Just finding it really hard to be compassionate towards my fellow man lately.

    There is good in everyone.

My think is we have lost the melting pot.

I want to know about that mans culture but I want him flying the American Flag on 4th of July and every other day.

Still happens...just on the individual level.

Im not so sure. I think that everyone is born good but sometimes things go so haywire that the light goes out and all that's left is the evil. You can see it, or the lack of it, in the eyes. Nobody home.

My point was general not individual.

    And,

There is not absolute good in all cultures.

Whatever culture the Democrats are right now doesn't get considered good.
