My brother in law is wanting to get into long range shooting. He has access to some excellent hog hunting land that is conducive to long range hunting and also steel banging. I believe there are a couple of fields where we will be able to get close to 1200yds. He has a Rem 700 varmint in a laminated stock. I tuned the xmark myself, it's descent. Beyond that he gave me $1800 and said just buy whatever you would buy for yourself. Here is what I did. Mcree Folder in OD green with stock pack and 1x 5rd mag, cause I cant find any tens but I have several he can borrow. Tabgear sling. EGW 20moa with burris XTR rings and a 4-16 ffp vortex moa/moa which I did because I run a NF F1 with moa/moa so it will be easier for me to teach him and we will both be on the same type of adjustments and corrections. I went with the 4-16 instead of 6-24 because this rifle will also double as a hunting rifle and the 4x low end is handy and I think 15 or 16x is plenty for 1k-1200yds or so.
So that is what I did, I would like to hear some opinions and what you would have done. I went with the mcree since it is what I run and it is adjustable. He is a smaller guy and it requires no bedding or gunsmithing, just bolt and go.

Thats what i thought. I mean he basically has everything but a custom barrel and a new trigger. Shoot this barrel till he learns a little about long range shooting then send it off for a new barrel and trigger later

The Remington laminated stocks are excellent when bedded. 1000 yd BR guys prefer laminated claiming it helps dampen heavy barrels. $1800 would by decent scope and mounts. Bed a PTG DBM in there if he's going to shoot matches.
