Last year I asked for help in the gunsmithing section for help with a TC encore with a scope that was maxed out in elevation and was shooting 6" low at 100 yards. I went went with the Burris rings with the inserts that were interchangeable for the more economical approach and I added 30" of elevation in order to sight in the scope with some left over. Anyways he didn't have time to sight in the muzzle loader before the late season so he showed me how to shoot a muzzle loader and I sighted it in the night before. He never got a chance to shoot last year and evidently he doesn't believe in practicing before deer season.
Now to the real story, I get a message Sunday night saying thanks for sighting in dad's muzzle loader with a picture of a buck attached at midnight. I couldn't really see the picture all that well and didn't even know it was youth season so I call my buddy the next day. His boy shot a nice buck late Sunday afternoon at 168 yards, buck ran about 70 yards and they heard it crashing through the timber. They waited a while and went in looking for it. It ended up being a 7 point typical on one side and a 12 point non typical on the other side. Needless to say his boy was excited, especially since it was his first buck he's shot. He said to his kid that they would have to ask mom if he could get the head mounted and the kid said I don't care if she likes it or not but we are going to get it done lol.
It's good to see a father and son have an experience like that together, that will be a day that be remembered forever. I only have a shitty cell phone pic that doesn't do it any justice but hopefully I will get a better one sent to me. Now I'm thinking about deer hunting one more year.
