I have recently gotten the 1911 bug. I have shot several and really like the way they look and feel. Been doing some research trying to decide what manufacturer and features to go with.

I have read on here that Springfield armory makes a good gun and everyone seems to be please with there quality and reliability.

I think I like the idea of something with a light rail on it and to be honest I really like the full rail TRP operator. I know that the last portion of the rail is cosmetic for the most part but I like the looks of it anyway.

My question is this.... do you think the premium price the full rail version commands is worth it?

Also, Is there any downside to the full rail? Would it be substantially more likely to snag coming out of a holster?

Thanks in advance!

So its probably a question as to whether or not it is worth it to you.

I have two railed 1911's and they definitely shoot softer with the heavier barrel and rail. Holsters may be a challenge from retailers but there are plenty of custom holster makers that cater to this market. As stated, they are heavier and that will make a difference if you intend to carry it on a daily basis. Do you have use for a 1911 with a light? (Trust me, I understand the "HAVE" factor, don't need it just want to HAVE it.)

So worth still depends on if you need that rail for the stated advantages or if the tacticool edge it provides is worth the extra expense.

I've got two 1911s, one Springer and one Les Baer. My Springer has a half-rail and works pretty well with it. It is a tight bit in my Sparks holster so I usually carry my LB if I'm going out. You won't go wrong either way.

Thanks guys for your input. Sounds like I need to find one of these things and get my hands on it before dropping the cash. I knew the weight would be different from a non railed version but it sounds like it may be significantly greater which I didn't realize.

Professionally I am a huge advocate for weapons mounted lights. When I made that mental leap many years ago, my work pistol was. 5" 1911. I ended up putting a Surefire MR07 on it with no regrets.

Holsters and weight are always a factor. Weight more-so. You can have a holster made.

But let me add this Tidbit: one advantage of the GI plug 1911 is the ability to charge are or clear a malfunction one handed by pushing the plug against a hard surface: table, corner, boot heel, etc.

Putting a FLGR or rail on a carry 1911, to my mind, takes that away for the fantastic price or more nose weight. On a pistol that is always getting ragged on for being heavy.

Note: my perspective is based from 8-12 hour working shifts reality. Not the plinking, square range reality. YMMV.
