Very nice rifle!

I agree, I wouldn't worry about a 8X. The only ones who used the 8X on the .22's were the Marines, and I've never seen any mention of them having the Savage. If this was mine, I might try to snag a lyman supertagetspot. Those are a great scope and have a similar appearance to a 8X Unertl and also are cheaper than any Unertl in any power. Usually you can find them for $500ish or less for a 10X. I've snagged a few for $400 or $450 recently. They are just as good of a scope as a Unertl as well.

Here is a lyman Supertargetspot vs a USMC 8X Unertl. Unertl on bottom.

Very nice 22, I'm sure it still shoots too. I havent seen many of them around. I used to have several Mossberg M44 trainers, but sold em off. I still have a M42m(b) that I'll never part with. I do wish it had a scope.

Those Lyman Target scopes are quality. Used to be able to get them for a little bit of nothing. They are definitely worth considering if you have trouble finding a Unertl.

Kraig,
That is a Remington bench rest scope. They came in 20X 24X and possibly 30X. Receiver mounted. I would guess you knew all of that.
I do see them at gun shows and on Ebay. Not hard to find.
Thanks for posting it.
