Rifle Scopes 2-10 optic

Looking for a 2-10 to go on a bolt gun for hunting. Not wanting to spend much over $1k.
features:
FFP
2-10
Locking or capped windage
Illumination is a plus but not a deal breaker
Locking elevation is a plus but not required
Parallax adjustment

the only scope I could find that check all the boxes was USO FDN 10x but it’s $2k plus. I know the Athlon

Might still find one of those floating around. I put one on a .22 and it works great for a cheap scope. Doug was selling them for around $200 last year.

I think Trijicon has one in the Credo line.

Trijicon credo 2-10. But I'll say that anyone considering the credo 2-10 should also look very hard at the primary arms 2.5-10 griffin mil as well. Alot of scope for the price

Your not firing multiple shots using holdovers while hunting. Plus having your reticle change size in low light situations makes it difficult to see sometimes when on lower magnification. FFP reticles are only useful for PRS matches, military and police applications, and engaging multiple targets quickly at known distances. Im sure I missed a few, but for the majority, hunting isn't one of them.

FFP reticles are only useful for PRS matches, military and police applications, and engaging multiple targets quickly at known distances. Im sure I missed a few, but for the majority, hunting isn't one of them.

I'm inclined to agree for most of the time but there is just the odd chance that FFP could present itself as an advantage in certain hunting situations. Granted it's hard to have a reticle that's clearly visible in the mag range the OP is wanting for FFP but if you have to back off magnification for a low light situation or just to have a greater FOV and have to make a wind hold, FFP holds it's merit there. On a 10x scope most of the time I'd admittedly be shooting at max mag but with my other optics that are beyond 10x I find myself hunting well below max mag a lot of the time and I really don't want to dial wind. There are just those rare instances. If an LVPO or small form factor 10X optic is executed right, FFP has it's advantages that would warrant getting one over it's disadvantages IMHO. Now finding a good 2-10 FFP that has the proper size reticle and great illumination so you can use it throughout the mag range, is a whole other story.

For sure SFP can be superior during the twilight hours, especially with illumination. That being said I’m going to have disagree that’s FFP are only for what you mentioned. Most of the time you have to time to get the distance with a laser while hunting and if you don’t and it’s past your point blank zero it doesn’t matter what you have really. Hunting can be incredibly similar to M&P engagements minus the bullets flying back at you. There is definitely positives to knowing that your reticle subtensions are correct no matter what power your on. Maybe you only get time to hit them with the RF and don’t have time to dial. Sure maybe the crazy grid reticles are unnecessary for a lot of hunting applications, but IMHO if I can keep a scope on 6-7x to keep FOV maximized and still be able to use it at a distance that might need compensated for (an not have to do crazy math or look at a cluttered dope card) I’m all in. Another thing a lot of PRS guys might not put high on their scope feature checklist is an illuminated reticle. To me having an illuminated reticle can make or break a scope for my choice.

Agreed and wouldn’t even say rare instances. Like mentioned above I like park my mag ring in a spot that maximizes FOV for that area. I don’t necessarily think it’s 100% necessary for full use of the reticle through the full mag range though. For a 2-10 I’d say anything above 4-5x should be usable. Personally I’m only using 2-3x for sub-100 yard stuff where holding off center isn’t necessary but you would need to make sure seeing the main crosshairs was possible either through reticle design or illumination. I wish I could design a 2-10 or 2-12 FFP scope for myself. No or very little x-mas tree that started at like 2 mil with dot holds only. Nothing passed 2 mil above center. Illuminated reticle that was daylight bright, but was just barely visible at the lowest setting at twilight. If it was a x-mas tree reticle I would only want the main verticals and horizontal crosshairs illuminated. Or maybe some crazy ass technology that shut the x-mas tree portion off at the lowest 1/4 of the mag range. Capped or locking windage. Anything sub 30oz and sign me TF up!

Still waiting for a quality sub 1500$ made by LOW 1.5/2 - 10/12 x 36/40 DFP or FFP with a properly designed reticle, good illum, parralax, locking turrets and zero stop. There’s very little in that market right now and with all the gasers out there you’d think there would be more of a demand.

Still waiting here as well. Looking for an optic for a new sig cross. Trying to keep weight down and $$ 1k or under...not much out there in this segment. In theory a 1-8 may work well but poor lowlight performance has me shying away. Would like to find a 2-10 or thereabouts to meet criteria. May have to go with old school 3-9 for now. Would like to have a FFP 2-12 but ive yet to find one that has an easily seen reticle on 2x. New athlon looks nice but not willing to roll the dice again with them.

The reticle in the SWFA ultra light has some of the right principles, they just need applied to a FFP format.

There seems to be a lot scopes making reticles very thin these days. I just picked up a 2-10 Razor for a brush gun, and I am very surprised how thin the reticle is. I feel like some of the designs are missing the target crowd specifically when it comes to the 2-10 scope. It is an MOA SFP scope, so I only shoot it with my Elmer Fudd hat on.

I had an elite 4200 2.5-10 with the firefly reticle. It could be executed pretty well in a 2-10 FFP hunting scope, just by changing the vertical stadia below the center to something like the G2 christmas tree, and putting some half mil wind holds on the horizontal stadia. If you want to shoot a smaller target, you dial down half a mil to the first small hash marks that denotes half mil on the reticle. You could make it a little cross just like the SCR or put a small center dot on the line. I feel like a 2-10 more so than other magnification ranges needs to focus on usability at the low end too. I feel like most people are looking at 2-10s because they want that big FOV, and settling for SFP because the reticle designs for 2-10 scopes are more geared towards long range with little to no thought about shooting on 2x.

Might want to try and find a used U.S. Optics B10. Very durable scope with pretty good glass that is in your mag/price/ffp range.

I don't have an issue with SFP in the sub-10x range because if I need accurate holds, I am likely on 10x. If I need to engage quickly while NOT on 10x, I am not changing magnification between shots so a hold still works fine assuming you are spotting your own misses. Called adjustments by a spotter are FUBAR. If I am dialed far enough back for that FoV, the shot is likely close enough to pick a MPR "zero" to dial to and call it good or I can adjust to 10x before engaging.

I am excited for the future as more manufactures are coming up with reticles that work better at both the top and low end of FFP LPVOs.
