How do the 155scenars do out of a short(20") 1-10 twist? Is 1-12 better?

Also, don't the Scenars need to be pushed fast to outperform 175s at distance?

I shoot em at 2940fps and almost made a first round hit by 2" at 1230 yards. I am building a 20" barrel, possibly a 1-10, may not be able to use the 155s

The 155s like 1:12 just fine if you push them fast.

The 155s have essentially the same G1 and G7 BCs as the 175 SMK, so theoretically, you could launch tme at the same speed. However, we tend to push them up to 2950 in order to decrease their drop and windage (inputs to the scope turrets). We tend to push them because we can.

Re: 2 questions on 155 scenars

I have a 1/10 .308 at 20" that will not shoot the 155's. But I have a 20" 1/12 that shoots 'em like there is no tomorrow.

Some guns are different from others. The 1/10 will not put 5 of the 155's inside 3"(no kidding), but will put 168's in .5" at 100. For some time I kept at the 155's. I like the bullet and the rifle, so I wanted them to work together. I finally bought a bunch of 168's and gave it a rest.

Are there any measurable differences in the chambers or the rifling groves of the barrel?

OK,

So we have a high quality barrel (Douglas) versus a factory take off barrel.

I think this would imply that this problem has little to do with the 1:10 twist and a lot to do with the smoothness of the barrel groves and lands.

Re: 2 questions on 155 scenars

According to Bryan Litz's book, 1:10 is required with this bullet to ensure proper stabilization in all conditions. 1:11 will stabilize in most cases, 1:12 will stabilize only in best-case conditions....which means thin air (warm/high altitude).

My 1:12 handled them nicely this summer at about 3500-4000ft DA.
