I respect the 17's, they are performers. I looked into them at length and finally decided my world could still be complete without one in my cabinet.
Like the .22's it's seldom reloaded. A few weeks ago, I'd have said never, but apparently I was wrong about that, at least for the .22's. This put me at the mercy of the factory loaders. If it was more expensive, I'd be skewered.
For the 17's, it <span style="font-style: italic">is</span> more expensive, considerably, and the reasons seem to be based around the use of jacketed bullets.
While I have no issues with jacketed bullets per se, I think they are inappropriate to rimfire ammunition.
Like the surge in short magnum chamberings some time back, I think they are a gimmick, a fad, intended primarily as a means to generate more sales of rifles and ammunition.
Both fads have capability. But for my means and purposes, those capabilities already existed long before the fads.
That's my reasoning behind favoring the .22LR.
