Does anyone have a similar set-up they could weigh? SPS 20"... something with the same general contour and 20". Just looking for rifle/stock combined weight.

thanks

Re: 20" 5R with AICS 2.0... Weight??

The barreled action will be ~6 lbs. The Chassis is ~5 lbs.
So your looking at ~11 lbs or more.

Doesn't sound too heavy, but once you add a two pound tactical style scope and some rings you'll hit fifteen in no time...

Re: 20" 5R with AICS 2.0... Weight??

That's almost the weight of the M24! SHIT! That's heavy!

Too bad, I like the viper skins and the AICS AX. But I'm just not looking for a 20" barreled bolt gun that weighs 15+ lbs fully outfitted.

Re: 20" 5R with AICS 2.0... Weight??

Na, the M24 is that heavy WITHOUT a scope, M24's are usually around 18-19 lbs fully loaded.

I don't have a AICS but my rifle loaded out is 14.9 lbs and is very manageable. It's pretty easy to shoot off hand.

I am acutely aware the weight of the m24 sans optics... 11.88lb. Which seems to be about the same as a 20" in an aics it would seem.

And 18-19lbs fully loaded??? I'm not sure where you're picking up about 7lbs

Anyway, 15lbs+ is still a bit more than I want my 20" guns to roll out at w no can

If you want a 'light' tactical rifle order a McMillan Edge stock (HTG, A1-3, or an A3) and you can be at ten pounds flat with your choice of heavy scopes and fancy rings and base.

Re: 20" 5R with AICS 2.0... Weight??

I don't know where I got that either, but my old M24 replica was a little 18.1 lbs decked out and loaded.

The 11.88 pounds you found on Wikipedia is an empty rifle only, no sling, no bipod, no scope. I have found just a base gun to be about 12.5 lbs, but Wikipedia is usually pretty good about their facts...sarcastic shrug.

Re: 20" 5R with AICS 2.0... Weight??

It very well could be as I'm not an Army Sniper nor have I ever been one but all I know is what I've seen with my own eyes. We will leave it at that so the thread is not derailed.

Op, you should also check out BlackOps Precision Kukri or Specter Babr rifle if you have the chance to purchase one. They are extremely nice and around 11-12lbs (I think) with scope/bipod.

Re: 20" 5R with AICS 2.0... Weight??

I'm likely going to stick with manners I think since I already have the 20" 5R's and they are getting fluted right now. Also got a sweet deal on a manners certificate. Considered using it for my .223 and running AICS on my .308 and future .300WM. But it's really a bit heavier than I want to see.

But yeah, that Kurki is a lot like what I want!

Re: 20" 5R with AICS 2.0... Weight??

You should very well be able to keep the weight down if you go with a 90% carbon fill stock, but if weights an issue I wouldn't opt for an adjustable cheek peice. Manners website says there's about 2lb difference in the same stock just adding the cheek piece.

If you do that you should hopefully only be around 10lbs sans scope.

Re: 20" 5R with AICS 2.0... Weight??

Yeah my goal is around 10 lbs no scope and well balanced. When I get my .300WM I'll be more flexible with weight on that.

Re: 20" 5R with AICS 2.0... Weight??

I don't really bother with weights as long as a rig handles well.

You made me curious though, so I weighed a 20" rig for you.

20" varmint (the Hart is 1oz heavier than factory), SA, trigger - 4.50lbs
Bolt - 0.75lbs
McM standard fill molded gel coat A1-3 - 2.00lbs
Steel Badger M4 - 0.50lbs
Magbox, spring, follower, scope cover - 0.25lbs
Steel Badger rail - 0.25lbs
Steel Badger rings - 0.50lbs
Hensoldt 34mm - 1.75lbs
Claw sling/swivels with homemade cuff - 0.25lbs

10.75lbs scoped & slung, all steel hardware.

Balances just behind the front action screw, feels lighter than the scale indicates.

Nice & fast on running game, stable enough supported.

Re: 20" 5R with AICS 2.0... Weight??

Don't know the weight off hand but I have an AICS 2.0 with a AAC-SD 20" barrel and action in it. Along with a Vortex Razor, full mag, and Atlas it is still very manageable. I have humped the rifle up to 3 miles before without issue and the extra weight makes it a pleasure to shoot as recoil is minimal.
