I built a .308 gas gun starting off with a Krieger Heavy barrel that is 22" long. I am currently using a borrowed scope while I decide on my scope mount and scope. The local matches that I will be taking part in are all sub-1000 yards. Is a 20 MOA 1 piece scope mount worth doing or should I not worry about it. I am looking at the LaRue mount and its optioned with 10 or 20 MOA of cant. What do you guys think?

Depends on the scope you're going to be using and if it has enough elevation travel after zeroing to run the gambit of your shooting distances and environments (cold weather kicks a bullet's ass). Me personally, unless it's a 1x scope on the bottom end, I always run 20moa canted bases/mounts and have yet to find a reason not to.
I have a ADM flat base with my NF 3-15 scope and at 1000 meters I still have elevation adjustments left. Thats off a 16 inch barrel Sig 716. All depends how much adjustment you have in your scope though, the NF has a lot of elevation adjustment, but some of the guys I shoot with that have similar setups and different scopes run out before they hit 1,000 and have to rely on the reticle. I always run 20 MOA on bolt guns, but for semi auto I change optics and guns frequently and a 20 MOA means I really couldnt change to a 1-4.
FWIW with how high some of the mounts are, especially the QDs, you may not be able to go low enough to zero. I had a Vortex prior to the NF and with a 20 MOA mount the lowest I could get at 100 yards was about 3 inches above the point I was shooting. It was then I decided to just use flat mounts for semi auto.

What is your budget? If money is not a factor, why not purchase a mount with 20 MOA built in, regardless of shooting distance. I recommend the AAD Mount. It is over built in every respect and doesn't add much more weight than a standard set of rings. I have not tested the repeatability of mine, but it is rock solid. Here are a few reasons why I chose a 20 moa base for my USO 3-17. One was for increased elevation, of course. Just because you don't plan on shooting to 1k+ you may want to at some point and you wont be able to unless your reticle has enough drop in it. Reason two is to keep the erector more centered in the scope body to prevent un necessary spring compression and even contact between the erector and the scope body. And remember, 20 moa base is only 5.8 mils. With your 22" barrel I don't see a reason not to give yourself the most options you can in the future. since your rifle will have have the capability of out shooting your base's ability to stretch.

I say yes, get it...even though you're shooting a .308. As others have mentioned, it will mean more elevation travel and although you may not be shooting beyond 500yds right now, if you ever decide to then you won't have the issue of not having enough moa to get there.
Definatelly go with a 20 moa mount. It will absolutely not hurt you at all. There should be no issue zeroing at 100.
I ordered a Vortex Razor and an American Defense 1 piece rail setup with 20 MOA. Thanks for the advice guys. I must admit Im a little nervous as to what that scope will look like on the rifle. It appears fairly large. Oh yeah, that guy over at Liberty Optics(Scott) is a GREAT guy to do business with. Very helpful! I found out about him through the Hide and I could not be happier.
It depends - do you have enough elevation available to get you to the range you need?
If you can elevevate sufficiently to get you to your max shooting range, then you dont need a 20 moa base.
Not totally sure you were addressing me. GDI P-ROM's come in 0 and 25 MOA. So elevation has not been an issue. Occasionally I will go from an ACOG to a higher powered optic, and back to the ACOG, etc. They work with BUIS also.
Here is a picture of my rifle with the new ADM 20 MOA rail installed. I just took this setup to the range and am very happy with the repeatability of the scope mount. The Razor has just a tad over 39 mils of adjustment!! Its rated at 36, so the extra was just the icing on the cake. With the 20 mao of cant, I have plenty of adjustment left.

Great looking rifle! What upper and lower did you use? I would like to put together a 6.5 or .260 some time and haven't decided who to use for the upper and lower.
What about the bolt and carrier? Were they both from SI as well? How long did it take for Kreiger to cut the barrel? I've been thinking about either a 260 or 6.5 Creedmor build, I'm not sure which yet.
I bought a chrome DPMS bolt carrier and the JP enhanced bolt. I waited approx. 4 months for Krieger to get me that barrel. My brother didnt want to wait and noticed that they had the M110 barrel in stock which is pretty stout as well. He waited approx 4 weeks for that process. JP sent the bolt to Kreiger for them to marry the two together.
By the way, now that the scope has been zeroed at 100yards, there is approx. 24 mils of elevation to go up!! Holy smokes! Looks like a 20 moa probably wasnt necessary but having it dont hurt. Actually, the 20 moa cant helped in one other way. With the scope canted, the back of the scope clears my charging handle a little bit more.
