Thought we would give 3rd rifle season a shot up in NW Colorado this year. Its some nasty steep country up there, but if you put in the work it usually pays off. This year it paid off big time! After numerous miles of hiking and seeing zero deer we decided to head to the oppisite side of the mountain we normally hunt. We walked in about a mile from the road and started glassing the far ridges, about 2 miles off I spoted this guys in a small burn out ravine. I humped it all the way to where I thought they were and all the sudded I saw the ass end of this guy and a doe about to cross over a ridge line, 3 more steps and he would have been out of sight and I would have never saw him. I got prone and shot in about 5 seconds of first spotting him! One shot from the .300 WBY and he was dead right there. I knew he was big, but I never would have thought he was this big! It was the afternoon of the last day of season, I guess all those miles paid off!!
