The Steel Safari is one of the premier true field long-range practical shooting matches in the country.

This year we will be changing the format to be 3 days of field-course shooting (used to be 2). Each field course will have about 8 stages, so you'll get more total stages over 3 days than we used to get in 2 days.

We are also raising the shooter cap because this format adjustment will allow more shooters. We will be accepting about 66 shooters into this match, so your chances of getting in are very good. After an initial 5-day online registration period, if we're over 66, we'll use the same criteria and categories as last year to select who gets accepted on the first list, and everyone else will go on the wait list. Additional signups will be first come first served. But I really expect everyone who wants to get in to be able to get in.

The 2013 web page isn't ready yet, but I'll have it up in the next week or so.

Registration will go live Jan 2nd.

We are technically full, but I would encourage anyone interested in shooting the match to put an application in online. The likelihood of being granted a slot is very high. You don't pay until your slot is granted anyway. In prior years, almost everyone who was on the wait list got a shot to shoot.

Some of you may have noticed that your checks haven't been deposited yet. I apologize for this. I have been waiting on some documents from the lawyer before moving to a new bank and I finally got acceptable versions this week. We should be able to deposit your checks next week. Wouldn't that be easier to write?

Currently shows 24 stages, 8 per day with 6 target opportunities per stage, but Zak has clarified in this thread that we can expect as many as 27 stages, 9 per day, 6 engagements per stage.

I have read the SS site and noted the info there. When I saw this thread with Graham's question and Zak's answer, the discrepency just confused me.

I've not seen asterisks mixed with numerals except when I'm reading Barry Bond's and Mark McGuire's statistics. We never covered that when Jethro Bodine taught me the Times Tables or the Gozinta's. He did a good job instructing Ricochet Shootin' though.

Awesome match. One of the hardest times I have had at there. They got a years rain in one hour the day before the match. The dirt was very dark/damp and just the finding targets on the south course was a nightmare. This was the first time that I have not been able to locate a target. The north course was good with lots of tough far away targets, some off sticks and dead trees. The west course was a blast with lots of difficult shooting positions and hard shots. I really enjoyed the west course.

Sundays humidity was ugly. I am not used to humidity in Logan thats for sure.

Zak, Ray and Jimmy did an outstanding job of getting us more shooting and some cool problems to solve.

I shot with Dave Roberts from US Optics. I dont think I have laughed so much on the range as I did this weekend. Top shelf dude.

My friend Jamie Dowd was 10th place **and** High Lady shooting a 300 Win Mag.

The tie-breaker shootoffs were a good time. A ten inch diamond at 200 yards offhand might be a big easy target, but not with 60-70 people watching and a 17-20 lb gun.

The prize table was awesome. Ann and Jeff did a killer job getting all the match sponsors to donate.

Already looking forward to next year.

As this was my first time out at a match like this I was not sure what to expect but I can soundly say I had had a great time!! It is, in its present form, arguably the hardest field precision rifle match in the country right now because it tests a comprehensive and specific set of skills under time constraints.

It was great seeing old friends from the SRM and Zia there as well as meeting new ones like the Josh and the crew from SilencerCo.

Really enjoyed shooting with Bruce Burnham, John Sternberg and Jake Nelson.

I was damn sure hammered down..... hoping to see an improvement after re-forging!

Once again, this was an excellent match ran by Competition Dynamics. I could tell Jimmy was involved in the stage design / shooting positions as soon as I shot the first stage. This match was substantially more difficult than last year due to creative target placements and contortionist-like shooting positions.

Thanks to the match staff, land owners, sponsors, and fellow competitors for making this match awesome. Congrats to Griz, he absolutely killed it (consistently each day).

I really enjoyed the change to 3 days of field shooting, and I'm looking forward to next year.
