2014 GAP GRIND/BUSHNELL PRO/AM hosted by K&M PRT (29-31 August)

looking at all the facebook posts, I couldn't tell if it was Bryan Morgan or Bryan Sykes who won the match, witch was it? It looked like a great time and there were so many shooters, I wish I could have made it.

Thanks for the info, the facebook posts were confusing since they spell their names the same way.
Congrats then to Bryan Sykes, I know it was hot as all get out there this weekend and there were a ton of shooters !!!!

2014 GAP GRIND/BUSHNELL PRO/AM hosted by K&M PRT (29-31 August)

Most amazing experience ever!!! I was an amateur. Not sure how to describe it, but...
It was like being in the Pits at the Indy 500 and every Pro driver CONSTANTLY coming over ... Giving you advice, telling you everything thing they know about what is about to happen, and cheering you on!

It may have been similar to taking a Precision Rifle course and have 76 Instructors to one student.
Crazy as it sounds.... I feel like a spoiled brat.
Words cannot describe how thankful I am to the sponsors ,K&M the Pro's!

To make it simple.... If you want to set up like the Pro's. .... Make a list of equipment to purchase from the Sponsors list that fits your needs and then it is all up to you :)

Just wanted to thank everyone involved for the work put into an amazing match. Also a big thanks to all the pros who offered advice, help and suggestions. It was well worth the drive and heat. This was my first time at K&M and first time meeting most all who were there. Shannon & crew run a tight ship & I cannot thank them enough for making it happen.

That said, having now met Shannon, I am extremely surprised that no one here has ever brought up his previous job and talents. I guess this is how he's able to afford lunch for 200+ folks.....

I'm with Trauma1! This was perhaps the best way for an amateur to get into big match shooting. And frankly, a great way to test yourself, challenge yourself, and see/learn what improvements you need and what to work on.

If you are like me, with little/no formal training and are into the challange and thrill, you will have a blast and will want to do it again! This event went very, very smooth, especially considering that there were almost 160 shooters. Plus, the K&M facility is truly world class, both course-wise and people/management-wise.

Everybody there, from staff, to ROs, to sponsors, to the pros, and the family's were great to be with.

Ok, so I was impressed! Try it yourself and see.

edit: and for the record, lunches were provided by Bartlien Barrels. Box lunches for probably 180 people x 2 days.

Lunches were very much appreciated. All of the ROs were great as well. Hell the whole weekend was a blast.

Honestly, once I first pulled into Crestview after 14 hours worth of driving I was seriously doubting that I would ever return to K&M for another match. As I was driving back home Sunday evening, I was met with a change of heart, amd now cannot wait until the next one. Unfortunately, my 10th place AM class finish pretty much means I wont be able to compete as an AM any longer... I knew I should have sand bagged more :/

I feel ya ranger. I was 13th so I guess we'll be in tan hats next time. I already have my Am picked out. My buddy that let me stay at his house and fed me all weekend wants to get in the game.

I also need to thank my pro Josh Briner from GA Precision and all my squad mates (who I won't attempt to name because I'll forget someone). Everyone helped each other and made me feel very welcome. Everyone had time to talk and answer questions. Just a great group of guys.

Big thanks to Shannon, george, bryan and all the ro's. This match was awesome! Great format that encouraged everybody to help one another. Also, michael cage: outstanding photos!
Sponsors were very generous, and many were present either shooting, or as ro's.
Big shout out to squad six, had a great time with you guys...tons of laughs!

Yeah, some of you "Amateurs" were shooting lights out!!! I saw quite a few out shoot their pro partners.

Has anyone posted the final score sheet anywhere?

That's bound to happen. My Am beat me on the first few stages of day one because my zero was off and I just dogged a few high value stages. Took me a while to catch back up from that.

Guys - I'm out of town still until Thursday. I will post a match wrap up note with photos, full scores, etc. by the weekend. Until then here are the scores. What a great weekend!

A big thank you to all involved in this match! From George and Shannon, the RO's, and for the Pro's who gave there time to help each one of us have a great learning experience. Everyone was so helpful and happy to assist in any way possible for the one goal of seeing everyone have a great time and to succeed in the ultimate goal...to bring new interest to the sport and to promote great team work! Well done on all fronts to all involved! Thanks again for a great opportunity!

Special Note: to those who were on the fence about coming...save up and get out there next year! You won't regret it!

Shooters,

I have talked to George a few times this week and we are still awed by the support of and response from the match. The teamwork and support from across the community is impressive. It sounds like many of you really enjoyed the format and I witnessed a lot of Pros sacrificing their scores to assist their partner. It was exactly what we wanted and you all represented extremely well. This was the largest precision rifle match ever! 160 shooters and about 25-30 people in support! Amateurs came out and knocked down artificial barriers that prevent many new shooters from attending these matches. They had a great time and learned a lot!
I need to publicly thank quite a few people; I know I will miss a few, so please forgive me!

ROs – You are the reason why the match flowed so well. You had to keep score for three different parts of each stage and you crushed it! These guys sacrificed their time and finances to support the match. We are forever indebted to you guys. Many of you do it twice a year for K&M and the Grind, simply amazing and I cannot thank you enough.

A lot happened this weekend under the water line as well. Frank Galli and Richard Emmons came together to work toward common goals. Cup will be a part of the PRS and the Hide and PRS are in full support of each other. Awesome news!

I speak for everyone when I give a huge THANK YOU to Michael Cage. He takes awesome photos and gives his time freely! Thanks Mike!

We also need to thank the crew from Shooting USA for coming down to cover the event. I can’t wait to see the final product! A very professional bunch of guys!

Sponsors supported this match big time! Please reach out to these guys and thank them. We will email the contact information to all shooters in the next few days. Bushnell came to table big time and Trace from Bartlein deserves a note from every shooter. He fed the entire crew all weekend! Reach out and thank these companies!

Below is the body of the email I sent:

I wanted to express a huge THANK YOU for sponsoring the GAP GRIND. As an amateur shooter your company’s generosity allowed all of the amateurs to walk away with a great prize. I did not do that well, but I still scored the Armageddon Gear bag I needed!

The Grind was a fantastic experience and took my interest in the precision rifle sport and created a passion for it. As I put together my gear, I will be sure to remember your generosity and shop with your company.

I look forward becoming a strong shooter and getting great gear!

Thank you for taking the time to post this list! No there is no excuse for us all to not let the sponsors know how much we appreciate their support to make events like this happen.

243hart, I cannot imagine why you would not be able to do so. While I do not run these competitions myself, I know of no restriction that would exclude you from doing so. If you can get here, pay the entrance fee, have capability to compete, and have access to a rifle system, gear and ammunition once you are here, then I imagine that you would be fine.

I suggest that you contact a match director of the match you are interested in and have that discussion directly with that person.

Hi all,

My name is Emil and I´m a shooter/hunter from Sweden.
I wonder if it would be possible for me, as a Swede, to participate in a competition like this ?

Best regards
Emil

Hi Emil,

As a Canadian who shoots matches in the US, including the Grind, you will need to get an invitation letter from the match director so you can fill out an ATF Form 6 NIA:

https://www.atf.gov/files/forms/download/atf-f-5330-3d.pdf

I would recommend faxing it and providing a fax number for them to fax it back, as that's usually the quickest way to get your permit. This will allow you to bring your rifle into the US.

Hope this helps, PM me if you need more info.
