2014 Sniper's Hide Cup in Weldona Colorado in conjunction with the Trigger Time Gun Club & T3 Training

When: May 22-25, 2014

Where: Weldona, CO Exit 66A off I-76

Cost will be $250.00 per competitor

Everyone who signs up between February 15th and April 1st will shoot the match. We can host all new shooters.

GENERAL PARAMETERS:
Match duration: 2.5 days, Friday May 22nd, until Noon Sunday May 25th.
Mandatory check-in and briefing on Thursday @ 6PM At the range.
Open Shoot on Thursday from 8AM to 5PM, no fee, we will have a sight in range and targets to distance. Thursday is also the Sponsor Demo Day.

Cartridge requirements:
minimum 6mm - maximum .338, velocity not to exceed 3200 fps

Rifle:
"open" specification - must be safe to operate and have functioning safety

Round count (estimate):
240 rounds, firing extra rounds may be allowed on certain courses
100 rounds of handgun

Rifle target distances:
100-1200 yards,

Pistol target distances:
effective range of pistol

Pistol Requirements:
Iron sights only, no electronic / optical sights allowed.

Night-vision optics not required, we will have a Night Vision and Thermal Side Match available on Thursday and Friday Nights. Prizes to be announced.

Registration Details,

Registration will be open at 12 NOON EST February 15th 2014, and all those who register and pay between February 15th and April 1st will shoot the match without an waiting list. All entries will be accepted. We are using our electronic registration and payment system. You will be able to sign up and pay via credit card in our store immediately. This includes signing up and paying for the train up.

The 2014 Sniper's Hide Cup tests practical and field rifle shooting skills and supporting activities, which may include but is not limited to: long-range marksmanship, target recognition, wind estimation, range estimation, trail skills, movement over rugged terrain, physical challenges, low-light shooting, and organic problem solving. Individuals will be required to complete problems utilizing their rifle, a service-type pistol, and any ancillary gear that is carried during the entire match.

Hotels can be found in Fort Morgan. There is also camping in the Fort Morgan and Jackson Lake area within 30 minutes of the range. There is access to the range from Route 144 towards Fort Morgan.

There are no facilities at the range but there is room to camp, we have enough parking that it should not be an issue.

Frank, a question about the handgun. My "go to" handgun has a Trijicon RMR on it, if I confirm with the RO before and after the stage that the RMR is off may I use this pistol?

You could just take the RMR off of the pistol. That's what I'll most likely do with mine.

I'd think they would be welcome, I also think it might be eye opening.

Last year they seemed totally open to the idea when it was raised (but nobody brought one). I suspect that it would have a tough time, and you still have to manually dope the wind. I don't think you could run a trackingpoint scope fast enough to get through a couple of the stages last year.

You can use a Tracking Point but not a pistol with an RMR on it?

A quick question.. are we going to be able to pick up our brass after each stage? Or do we need to have something to catch it with? I would hate to just write off 200+ pieces of lapua or nosler brass.. thank you!

I'm guessing like last year, it's probably a lost brass match. With a lot of shooters, running an efficient match means you can't have people standing around after they are off the clock digging through brass to find theirs. No way to keep 120 shooters on time and keep everyone safe and out of each others way.

I don't remember last year as being a lost brass match. I know I retrieved about 80% of my brass after the stages were over, or during breaks when the shooter was shooting the 2nd position, etc. The stages on the rocks or cliff were the only ones I didnt even try and find my brass at.

This is encouraging. At over $1 a piece I would sure like to recover at least some brass.
Or, since it will be my first match, maybe I'll just shoot a 308 and not worry about it.
I'm looking forward to this either way!

Frank, I know this is an individual event, but when we register will we be able to request being in the same squad as our buddies? I have a couple of newer shooters who will be shooting their first major match and will be sharing Range finders etc, plus it would be funner to shoot together.

Yes you can request a squad assignment... we want everyone to have a positive experience, that includes helping new shooters prepare for the stages.

The shots are individual, but the planning can help people overcome some initial apprehension and fears about competing.

We'll be mixing it up,

Regarding the tracking point rifle, you still have to dope the wind it does not do it for you, and it's really no different than using a laser and ballistic program. It's so wildly expensive it's not like you'll have people rush to use it, and with the size of the targets we generally use, the movement during some stages as well as the timings, it probably will not make a very good competition system.

Optics on a pistol, SH has a long history of not using them. So we are making life easy and not using them. It's not a pistol match.

Field Course combined with a bit of stage movement under time, obstacles, etc.

I suspect you will see more movement and a wider variety of positional shooting at this year's cup as opposed to the more pure 'field match' style of last year, you will love it though! This will be my third year in a row, trying to make it an annual thing on my end, its a blast!

We are a group of 4 guys (from Quebec) that are planing on going but one of us does not own a pistol, would it be possible to loan him one of ours so that he could make the pistol stage or does he have to absolutly carry one on him for the complete competition?

Speaking of the pistol stage(s)....

This will be my first match that has both rifle and pistol, I'm wondering if there's any specific requirements/recommendations on holster and mag count. I've got a pile of options but just would like a heads up if there's something I need to watch out for. ie are drop rigs allowed (many matches don't allow them), required mag count, etc. All this will also help me to decide which one I'll bring.

Its not so much the movement but you do carry everything with you and its exciting so it gets your blood pumping, its fun, I'm planning to get my cardio in better gear before this year's Cup, no telling what Frank has planned

Spoke with the guys today, they are realy interested but two of them cant get free that week-end. Any chance to see another match later this year (fall)?

I experimented with a Burris Eliminator III at the match last year and it would successfully range only 1/4 to 1/3 of the time due to sunglare, blowing dirt, and probably target size at range. The first day of the competition even the higher end range finders were challenged by the weather. The shooters that stuck to the basics and knew their rifle and cartridge capabilities seemed to do the best overall. The KISS principle all the way!

In watching the videos I didn't see shooters ranging the target before shooting. Is there a walk through that shooters are ranging prior to moving into position or am I missing something?

It varied with the stages last year. For most there was an area set aside from the shooting position where you could observe and range a good number of the targets, but not necessarily all of them. And then there were stages where you couldn't even see the targets until you were at the shooting position and on the clock.

That has not been a problem in the past. I would think it wouldn't be a problem this year.

No problem, space will be pretty easy, so you can bring people and they can follow you
