Sniper’s Hide Cup 2014 Sniper's Hide Cup: Results, Updates, ETC?

I'm surprised that with all the participation and interest in the 2014 Sniper's Hide Cup, there weren't any daily updates with photos or scores. I realize it's only been two days since the event ended and people are traveling, but there still hasn't been any news reported. Other events sometimes offer nightly updates, and I suspected this event would be no different. Perhaps I've just been unsuccessful in finding it, but nobody's really talking about this namesake event. Anybody have updates to report, or photos of the action?

I don't know about anyone else, but there was no cell phone coverage at the site. I had a great time, but I was a little too busy for any good pictures.

I did see some folks with fancy cameras around. I'm hoping to see those at some point.

Congratulations on placing 22nd (out of 128 competitors) at the 2014 Sniper's Hide Cup! Neil did well, too, placing in the upper half.

Maybe I missed it somewhere, but I'm wondering what the possible scores were on each station and then what the total possible was.....

I don't have it broken down that way...

But most stages were 15 points, there were a few that were 20, 18, etc, but you can figure about 60 points per Segment so 300 +/- was the total possible.

Nobody I heard of did, seems like the dope was way off. Plus the RO at that stage was ummm, really something. All the other RO's were superb and the match itself was awesome. Great stages and great folks, Frank put on a really fun match.

I know of 1 that hit it (mile shot) and, at least when I shot it, the elevation seemed as spot on as anyone could ask for at that range. Wind was well, "interesting". I came very close to hitting on my second shot, barely off the right edge, bracketed the target, and hit 3 feet to the left of it with the 3rd shot.

Edit: as info, the wind completely dropped on me when I fired the 3rd shot, so I'm not implying in any way the rifle was off. First shot was about 4 feet Right of the target, second was off by maybe a couple inches, so bracketing for the third would have been bang on had the wind stayed the same.

Morning of the first day was the only time the wind wasn't playing it's tricks out there. Wicked fun the rest of the time; it was tough chasing the wind! The lay was deceptive when the wind started picking up. On the few occasional spotters taken, my hold was only 0.3 mil

The dope was not off, it is how we release the shot and the individual that changes it.

The gun was dialed in (except for the wind) and Paul hit is twice when dialing it in. As well, it was initially gonna be a side match until the guys shot the OakWood Tech target during Demo day, so we made the 1 Mile Shot part of it.

But it was dialed in as much as possible, how the individual shoots it will be the deciding factor which just demonstrates how you can change your dope.

The dope was good on the mile shot when my squad was on E. My shots and the few shooters I spotted for after cut a centered, horizontal line in the tricky winds. I shot in a pick-up from about 2.8-4.0 mils and never got in front of it.

I thought the dope was fine, any elevation issues at that range are easily explained by the shooter. I thought it was going to be a lot harder than it was. Not that I hit it, I missed, but I was surprised how close they were landing at that distance, its definitely a doable shot.

On Friday no one we talked to hit it so good on those that saw some hits. I am a big guy and the bipod was super short for me so I couldn't spot my own splashes. Add in wind, and different shooters and it made for a tough shot! Good times, I'm already looking forward to the next one!

Bipod height was right bit the cheek piece was way to low for my face. I would have adjusted it but I was a little short on time and didn't want to waste time on trying to figure out how to adjust it lol

...If only that target had been painted Frank LOL. RO told me it was as high as it would go, hard to explain to a man of your size. I figured out that the other dude in my squad with my last name was the one talking about painting targets at lunch and we are related so you were giving ME shit about it thinking it was him! Ha.

Quote of the day from Frank "If some sniper was wearing camo you'd be FUCKED." You just can't get that kind of instant feedback online.

Hey at least I am consistent, you can tell people I talk the same way in real life and not just like that on the inter-webs.

We did paint targets daily, which was better than in the past, they weren't painted at all, in fact they how they were found, rusted, gray, shot up, is how they stayed in years previous. But we painted them daily.

Honestly it was really good practice and everyone had to shoot stages in the afternoon where there was no paint so it all evened out. Made me realize the need for good glass too for your bino's or spotting scope. That's where the loaned Steiner bino's were great.

The best was the fields of white daisies where the white targets actually blended in on the hillsides! Honestly was great training.

We shot the mile stage on Sunday morning. Nobody on our squad hit it, though Crutis came very close. After talking to some of the guys, it seems we all were having to hold low, and still missed because the wind was switchy. But, honestly, that's what you would expect at a mile. I mean, if you don't have dope for it, you should expect to see that much vertical from day to day's difference in density altitude. not a big deal. It was a really good match. I really enjoyed all of the different stages. Good variety, and very well done. Thanks again.
