NF ELR Virgin here.
-What is the primary shooting direction or is there multiple depending on stage layout? As in shooting towards the north, south, west, east etc? (Trying to not run a sunshade)

It's a fairly broad direction of fire. If my memory is right none of the shooting is north, very little to the east and tons to the south and west ish.
EDIT: I think there is one or 2 stage that shoot north.
Direction changes alittle every stage but it's shaped like a horse shoe I would say. Shot 30 nosler first year then 300 norma improved last year.

Buddy shot a 28 Nos, no issues until it rained super heavy then splash was harder to see. in normal conditions it was good.
I have two friends who've shot the NF ELR, one shoots a 7 SAUM with 180s around 2800ish, the other was doing a 300 Norma with 245s at ~2900. Guy with the SAUM felt a disadvantage of over an MRAD difference at a mile:

I might not go 7mm if you're trying to win or get high on the walk-the-prize-table list. My friend who ran the 245s in the Norma is switching to a 7-300 Norma this year for the Light division.
YA at SAUM velocity you are sacrificing a fair bit more. get them going as fast as possible.
7-300 PRC or 7-300 NM would work well.
Guy shooting the SAUM does not recommend it for ELR competition, says he'd never build an ELR gun in a short action again.
Are we thinking that that list is going to be based off actual finish placement this year?
I honestly don't think it should be.
Top 3 in each Div walk the table in order.
Then just completely random draw after that.
One of my friends was pretty ticked off this last year over the prize table. He's used to PRS and NRL22 X-match prize tables. I think he just had an overall bad experience last year though. Targets going down on day one put him on the range and shooting stages for 14+ hours. Top it with an unexpected table-walk order, and he was considering not doing the match anymore.
I personally would like to see fewer prize tables walked based on score alone anyways. Overall score means light/tactical/gas gun/other classes get abandoned. I was kind of glad to hear the NF challenge went a different direction in 2024.

It wasn't really intentional. They had a glitch with the scoring system which corrupted some of the files so they just rolled with the info they had. I think the order alternating between class' was just a decision they made heat of the moment and wasn't really intentional.

I'm all for whatever well defined and sensible prize table walk a MD wants to come up with. I'd also be fine with no prize tables, wouldn't affect me pretty much ever lol.
Also there are plenty of threads and FB posts about the absolute shit show it was last year. I don't mean to derail another thread, just hope that they can get it put on in a competent manner.

I mean, it's one of the most well known matches. Accommodating 300 shooters and keeping them happy sounds like hell. If I were them, I'd split it into two matches. But at the end of the day, it's not a lot of work to whine, and it's a crap ton of work to run a match.
Back on topic - when does registration go live? I've never done the match, but this year I'm sorely tempted to enter the light division.

People were pissed about the prize table for sure, there was a guy swearing because his name got called out of order at 10th place. but they were just used to the old way. If you came for the prizes you shouldn't have attended.
A couple target failures caused some major jam ups on certain stages but shit happens.

My post has really nothing to do with the matches but I was out in the Casper/Glenrock area last June and had brought my 300NM 35*IMP long. We set up a steel USPSA target at 1800 yards one afternoon. I had saved a chart from Berger's website before leaving AL to reference and the numbers were surprising close.
The biggest surprise to me was how well the 215 Hybrid did even with the normally breezy Wyoming day.

I ran a 7-300wm 2 years ago at nf match, and my friend shot my gun at the KRG match last year and I shot my 300 norma. 7-300 hung right there out to 2200 or so. It's a bad as cartridge. A 7-300prc would be really bad ass.
Excited to be going this year, will be my teammate and I's first actual competition. We will both be shooting pretty similar 7PRC's. 190 A-tips about 2950. Hoping to get one weekend of practice at a mile and then just wing it and have a good time

We are going to the NF match. They provide the steel or is it just find some BLM land and bring your own steel? First time going out west for both of us.

That's awesome that you can get 2950. I'm all capped out at 2890 with very very heavy bolt lift and deep extractor marks. 66.9gr H1000 but will be toning it down. What barrel length are you shooting? We are using H1000, will have to double check the charge weight. ADG brass. I’m using an Impact 787 and haven’t experienced any heavy bolt lift yet. Attached two pics, 2950 is my gun and then he added another grain and got the 2980s to my buddies yesterday. We were practicing with Berger 190s and swapping to the Atips for load development.

24". Totally forgot to even bring that up since it matters for sure. My groups opened up to over 1" when loaded to 66.9gr. At 66.3 I was easily 0.5" so going back to that load. Was chasing speed and it bite me back.
That makes sense, we chose to go 28” for the comp. Can’t always be Ricky Bobby and be all about the speed lol.
I wear Duluth pants with side pockets or the 511 pants but no knee pads or anything like that. Only reason I wear them is so I have extra space just in case I usually grab my brass and throw in side pocket to get off shooting line faster
You have to be there to register Friday anyway.
If I was shooting teams I'd make those 2 rifles shoot the same speed.
IMO no need for knee pads but to each their own.
Pretty much what we have done. Barrel length the same, same brass, same bullets. Will charge to same velocities. Should end up pretty close.

it will be my first long range match, with a brand new rifle that I hope I can develop a load for before I travel to WY. I’ll be shooting 7 PRC too but the rifle is still being built. If it’s not ready in time I’ll be shooting factory ammo.
