22 Creedmoor misfire/hangfire issue

Hello,

I have been doing some 22 CM load development in my rifle and just got 100 new Alpha SRP cases. The rifle is a 24 inch 7 twist tube and has been fussy to get shooting well and has already ended up back at the original gunsmith who worked up a load with Alpha LRP brass. Well, I got some SRP alpha brass and up here in MN yesterday it was about 25 degrees and I had 2 rounds that didnt go off and several hangfires with both RL26 and H4350 using Bergers 85.5s.

Have any of you folks seen ignition issues when using SRP in larger cases in cold weather? If so, this alpha srp brass gotta go.....

PS....if anyone has any 22CM load data they would like to share, I am all ears. I have 75 and 88eldms...80gr, 80.5 and 85.5 VLDs and 77 tmks, Hornady brass and H4350 and RL 26 and a few others to work with. Neck bushing size suggestions would also help.

This is a known issue in 6,5 creed with SRP brass. You're compounding the problem by using slower powders at low temps. Switching to large rifle primers seems to eliminate the issue.

If you're not already, try a magnum rifle primer, or switch powders.

Or get really creative, and pop the ammo in with a handwarmer before you shoot it and see if that helps

I have been doing some reading and that research appears to agree with what you are saying....SRP brass up here in cold temps in MN, ND and Montana is now a dead issue. Thanks for confirming what I thought might be the case...

Can confirm - if you’re going to run a SRP a cci450 might get the job done. Just too much charge volume with a slow burn rate for most small rifle primers to set off when temps drop.

for what it’s worth, I’ve had good luck with Hornady brass and 40.0gr of H4350. Runs the 88’s right at 3K fps froman 18”

I will try that...knowing its a 7 twist, I would like to run something heavier than 75-80 grains. 88s would be great if they will shoot...
