Looking for reviews of the Eley .22 CMP standard bulk ammo. What are you getting for average velocity, SD and ES. I was thinking to order some as practice ammo. I currently am shooting Eley Club.

I couldn't find any recent info on the CMP bulk ammo myself, so I ordered it anyway to try. Supposed to get delivered tomorrow. But, I am sure FedEx will screw that up somehow.

Their shipping estimate is spot on though. Ordered on 10/15, shipped 11/12.

Ran some through my T1X at 50 yards when the weather was a little chilly with a decent breeze.....

I bought a box of 500 from a friend just to try them out. It's certainly NOT match quality. I weigh my 22 and sort by tenths of a grain. This stuff was ALL OVER the map! MUCH higher weight range than the SK Long Range Match and SK Rifle Match that I normally shoot in my Bergara B14R. At 50 yds I normally get at least 1 MOA groups and often 1/2 MOA groups (1/2" to 1/4") but the Eley CMP stuff was around 2 MOA, it was so bad I didn't even take a picture of the groups. I will use it for plinking with a pistol or maybe for Steel Challenge matches.

Did you shoot it in more than one rifle?!

In at least one Anschutz, 457, and a Shilen barreled Keystone AR, it fucking hammered at 50 yards. 3 barrels from 2 continents with 3 different chambers...

I mean it shot WAY out of its weight class.

Further out it suffered, but at 50 yards, it hangs pretty tough with your mid-grade match ammo like SK RM, Wolf ME, or Eley Club/Target.

For a “match” round in .22, it’s one of the best deals out there if your rifle likes it.

I guess I’m just lucky to be 3 for 3?

Nope. I only have one precision 22 rifle... The B14R didn't like it.

This was what I saw as well. It shoots well in most of my rifles(Anschutzs, Sako P94s, 40x, CZs, etc.) EXCEPT the B-14R and it won't cycle in my 1022.
I like the stuff a lot, especially for the price.

I got my shipment. It was pretty windy but it looks like it’s only slightly worse than Center-X in my Vudoo. These are ten shot groups at 50 yards, and the inside of the red ring is 0.5” for scale. However, it’s hard to chamber in the Vudoo, sometimes very hard. Hopefully it shoots well in my CZ 455.

I also purchased a case of the CMP Eley ammo mainly so I don't run out of .22 ammo during these nutty times. I received it this past Saturday. I ordered it almost exactly one month previous. Came via FedEx and arrived in good shape. Looked just like the picture on the CMP website.

I used CCI SV in my Ruger 22/45 last winter for bullseye league and thought this might make a good substitute, so I took my pistol and the Eley to my local indoor range on Sunday to check for function. It ran flawlessly, shot to the same point of aim and was at least as accurate. As I was at the range, I thought I would also bring along my Ruger 10/22 LVT that got the full CPC spa treatment. This is only a 25 yd range, so I was only shooting the 10/22 for function, and it too ran flawlessly with around 50 rounds. If it warms up a bit around here (it was 38' and windy last Sunday), I'll get out to the outdoor range I belong to and try for some accuracy testing with the 10/22 and my Anschutz.

So far, very pleased with the CMP Eley ammo! And with 5K rounds, I should be good for a few years.

I have shot over 20K worth of this ammo and have won many matches and many second places with it. Yes it chambers rougher than Center X but It shoots virtually as tight and good as it for 1/3 rd the price. It does give you a random flyer which can bite you in the ass like it didnlast month on a KYL stage an cost me a win. In the end I love it!!

Happy to fix that for ya buddy!

Tomorrow is no guarantee, and since nobody ever dies and wishes they were leaving more ammo unfired, shoot more today.

Here’s a way to ease into it: shoot a few times a week, and never take a partial box of 50 back home/inside. If you start a box, you kill a box.

I got a case this month. It shoots better than CCI SV and Federal Match in both Kimbers (82G and K22). The Lithgow loves it more than SK LR or rifle Match The CZ 452, 455 , 457 are indifferent. Not shot it in either Anschutz yet.

I did hear of people having issues with actions getting fouled in 10/22 and other semis.

I'll buy it again.

I was put off by how greasy the boxes I got was. I bought a box off of PSA and some the bulk eley action off Killoughs. Both boxes were just dripping in lube and the action had a black film. I spent more time cleaning the cases and my fingers to load the magazines than shooting. They ran fine in my guns but I prefer 50 rd boxes.

I’ve shot nearly a case through a variety of firearms. The rims guage a bit thinner and I’ve had extraction issues in some guns. On rifles with headspace set for these, they group exceedingly well compared to other comparable priced ammo out to 100m.

Not that it helps anybody now since this stuff is sold out but:
Average group size is just about right on .5" @50yds with my Vudoo. One lot was slightly over .5" and one slightly under. Bolt close is hard in the Vudoo but the one I have had fail to fire did extract live. Firing pin marks are pretty light on the hard Eley Brass with the lighter weight Lapua calibrated firing pin string. Group size was similar out of my Anschutz 1710. It chambers a bit easier in that rifle and has had no failures to fire.

In the Vudoo (20" proof barrel) Mean velocity was 1075fps with an SD of 8fps and an ES of 35fps.
In the 23" barrel Anschutz 1710 Mean velocity was 1051 fps with an SD of 10.4fps and an ES of 38fps
Each rifle had a different lot.

At the price this stuff was excellent. I wouldn't call it match quality, but really good practice fodder at a bargain basement price. Hopefully we will get a chance to get more in the future though I did notice that all the lots I have seen posted about as well as my own appear to have a 2017 production date so this may have been a Trump slump special not to be repeated. Given the performance, I wouldn't be surprised if this was just Eley Target sold in a bulk pack for half price.

Anyhow, here were the groups I shot thorough the Chrono today with the Vudoo
