Have a.22 lakefield mark 2 rifle
Some one had bolt out tried to force back in with a hammer
I cleaned it back up so it would slide back in but now it fires when I close the bolt
I'm a novice and looking for info on how to correct this issue Thanks in advance

On older rifles like that you often had to pull the trigger to remove and replace the bolt from the action. If someone did as you said and tried to reinstall the bolt with a hammer they were a monumental dumbass. Without seeing it, my first inclination is to say that they damaged or destroyed the sear with their escapade. It would explain why it fires on close.

Unless you are very well versed on how a trigger functions I would recommend a trip to a quality gunsmith to adjust/repair or replace the trigger. As Trigger says the sear is probably ruined and will require replacement if not the entire trigger assembly. The gun is a danger to use and an accident just waiting to bite you in the ass as it is now.

I have the gun locked out when not working on it gunsmiths are backed up in my region and would like to learn to fix it myself I'm not in a rush just looking for where to start books; videos Thanks again for the info

I gotcha, I did a little research and it appears that this rifle and a Savage MKII are somewhat interchangeable. My understanding is that a Rifle Basix SAV-R trigger will work. I would get that to replace the trigger and sear and see what that nets you. Again, without seeing the rifle there’s no way to know what other damage may have been incurred.
