.22 lr ammo???

People here are getting to the local Academy Sports almost 1.5 hours before it opens so they can get to the ammo counter first. It's downright ridiculous.

I went to an Academy in FT Worth just to check what kind of ammo they had and I saw like twenty boxes of 22. I looked to see what the limit was and was ready to grab a couple of boxes, I looked closer and it was 22 short. What a let down.

Iv been buying 22LR here and there when i go to walmart for a while, counted the other day got 2100rds. Sounds like alot but not realy, I enjoy shooting my 22's and its nothing to shoot 2-300rds in an evening on the bayou. Since the shortage, if thats what its being called now Im real conservative when i go shoot. Sucks big time b/c I love to hear tat-tat-tat!!!

Same here. I work right across the street from an Academy and go there during my lunch breaks regularly or after work to search for ammo and they are always out. I spoke with the guys behind the counter and they told me that they have people waiting to get ammo before they open. It's freaking crazy.

Doing the math. Let's say I live in a town of 20,000 people. There are at least 500 shooters here, who if given the chance would buy 4 bricks of 500 rounds. I know one guy who has two teenage boys who used to shoot 500 rounds on Saturday - they haven't done that in FIVE months now. That guy is quite upset. If given the chance at even $40.00 a brick of 500 rounds, he has stated he will try to buy 10K so he and his boys never have to worry about shooting together for a while. He plans on resuplying too - he never planned before-well, now if given the chance he will and he has the money at 40.00 a brick.

Getting back to the math - 500 shooters buying 2k in rounds which is 4 bricks of 500 (at the old price somewhere between 16.99 and 22.99) This will be One million rounds. There are over 3000 Walmarts in the United States. I don't know how many sell ammo - lets just guess at 1500 stores. The number is staggering and shuts off my calculator. I am not even close to figuring large cities like Phoenix, Tucson, Los Angeles etc......There ain't now way .22 caliber ammo is going to be plentiful for years. That is my thoughts. It cannot catch up until maybe 2014.......

I stumbled upon Wal-Mart ammo grocery shopping with my wife last week. They had just got all their ammo in and I think I was the first to see it surprisingly, as it was 1600 or so. I bought 3 boxes of Remington .22 and she bought 3 boxes of WWB 40. Still, I'm worried about going to the range and shooting it as then what? I'll be out if .22 again!

Personally, I haven't used this site yet but it seems to have some good potential. Gunbot.net. The best thing I've noticed is to keep this open in a browser window, because the site automatically refreshes itself when new listings are added. If you can sit on top of this (or leave it up in the background and listen for the beep) during the day, some good deals pop up. You could also just pony up the extra $ for the current listed ammo prices if you wanted.

Also, I have product supply notifications setup on MidwayUSA for .22lr match ammo. In the past month, I've seen Eley Tenex, Wolf Match and Aguila Match ammo notifications come my way. If you can act quick enough, you can scoop up a good amount there.

Happy Hunting!

Saw 500 rd bricks of Wolf .22 actually posted on line on Sportsman's Guide the other day, gone the next. Palmetto State had .556, so I was kind of hoping things were looking up. Local shop shelves still have tumbleweeds blowing through them.

The only thing there appears to be a shortage of is cheap bulk ammo.
I've made purchases of Wolf MT, Wolf ME, Midas Plus and Center X
in 2000 round lots since December. Longest wait was 3 weeks.
Last purchase was 2 weeks ago, 4 bricks of Center X, delivered 9 days after ordering.
Prices were the same as I paid in September 2012. Looked this evening
to see what was available. Buncha RWS, Eley, Lapua in stock at good prices.
Spend some time on line searching the smaller suppliers, there's still good deals out there.

Went to the gun show in Jackson, MS this A.M. Not a box of .22 ammo to be seen in whole place. Almost as bad for .223 and .308. Lot of import stuff though. There are scattered rays of sunshine, but still pretty overcast I guess...

It'll come around. Probably within the next year...same as after the '08 election.

I expected this after the last election and ordered 20K that week. Don't know how bad it would have gotten if Lanza hadn't blown a fuse, but I consider my self lucky...at least for another year or so.

-and the same as it will be after the 2016 election.
Honestly, I'm expecting candidates from both sides will at least tell the public they want to repeal Obamacare and will be pro 2a. Basically the public is going to be so fed up with Obama that whoever is the most polar opposite will have the best chances. By then, .22 will be plentiful

+1

I don't know why folks choose to pay double or triple what some SK or Wolf costs for a crappy bulk brick.

I gave my buddy a brick of Blazers for him and his wives new set of pistols, they tried to give me $150 because that was what he saw on gunbroker. The sticker on the box I gave them said 22.99:(

I wonder if we have turned a corner? I worked a Gun Show in Buffalo NY this past weekend, plenty of .22 and .223 ammo for sale. CCI Standard & Mini Mags, Match .22 We sold very little to none. At the end of the day dealers were walking around asking each other how they did, sales were horrible, I think people are sick of $100-120 bricks of .22 and $1000 for a case of .223.

People walked up, looked at the prices and strolled on. I saw a guy trying to get $200 on a battle pack of SA Surplus 7.62, 140rds

CMP is the only deal in town, .50 cent a round. My Garands are getting shot more than anything.

Kasumi:

I'm near Buffalo and was wondering which show was that?....and where can you get CCI SV ?..and what was the asking price?

To others.....we need to ask ourselves what is fueling the hoarding instinct? People are saying this will settle down by "X" ( pick a date)....but I don't see the fundamental fear lessening any to make us think this will ever get better. People are fearing new legislation or simply the fear of "not getting any", so that they end up buying more than they could ever need in the short term. Guys who were buying 50 rd boxes at a time are buying bricks and brick buyers are buying lots of 10,000 if they have the chance.

Guys...we're all doing this to ourselves !!!!

I'd like to see us all settle down and then we ALL will go back to almost normal levels of availability and pricing. Not like "before" but awfully close. But not if we keep on like this. Frankly, I don't see this problem ever coming to a head.

Eventually people will run out of excess funds to stockpile excessive amounts of ammo.

And once prices start to fall a bit, then the people buying to resell will stop.

Creedmoor Sports has Eley Tenex at $20/50, bought and shipped same day to me yesterday. Not too bad considering some are charging that much for Federal Bulk Pack. I have an order in for numerous types of Lapua and Eley with Champions since Sunday, but it hasn't shipped yet. I have a new 40x to run through the wringer, so I will pay the prices for now.

Does anyone have any recommended sources to watch for Wolf MT?

I've had 2 cases of Wolf MT on backorder with Champion Shooters Supply since the 2nd week of December... and they just sent me an email that they are cancelling my backorder and to use their "back in stock" notification instead. Not too happy about that, if I'm not quick on the draw when the email comes in there's no guarantee I'll be able to snag some.

I'm down to my last brick. Any other recommended sources to watch that have pricing similar to Champions (about $475/case?)

Luckily I have about 9K JSB 25.4 gr .25 caliber pellets on hand for my Edgun for cheap trigger time, but I'd like to have some more Wolf MT on hand!

It's showing up here. It's the scalpers and flippers who are elongating the ammo crisis, especially .22 ammo.

Yes, it's 100% the flippers, you are correct. This has nothing to do with the people hoarding ammo, it's all flippers.

Seriously, you're a moron. Every morning whether they get a truck or not 20-40 people line up outside of dicks sporting goods. All the same faces who know one another. A lot of these people make six figure salaries, they don't need money bad enough to stand in line for two hours to flip a box of ammo for a $20-30 profit with a limit of three. They are shooting it and hoarding it.

IPSC; It was the Hamburg Show at the Fairgrounds/Casino/Racetrack, there was one dealer that had CCI Standard V at $15 a box of 100. Most dealers were at $20 for both SV & Mini Mag. Here in Rochester this week we are back down to $10, the large Ammo distributor who was gouging .45 ammo at $40-50 a box is back down to $24.

Is it trending back, not sure, but appears that way. I'm finding case's of 55gr .223 at $525, FGMM .308 @$28 and FGMM 69gr .223 @ $27, small shop south of Rochester.

I've been picking up .22 here and there. I was at roughly 7500 rounds but traded some for some much needed .40. I am picking up nearly a grand this weekend and have another guy who owes me a brick as well. I have a nice assortment as well of everything from bulk to sub sonic to match grade.

Champion Shooters Supply is still shipping some ammo. They just processed an order of mine for 250rds each of Lapua Center-X and Midas Plus, and Eley Match and Tenex that I picked up to test fire through a new (to me) 40x. Took two weeks from order placement to shipment, so they're busy as hell but still taking orders.
