.22 LR bolt rifle

Any input towards a .22 LR bolt gun would be appreciated. I am tired of the local gun shops pushing their product. I would like some non biased information.
A tapped barrel is a plus, it will be used to work on shooting fundamentals, as well as small game.

I am admittadley biased, but for ME, I'll take an older Remington 581, 541 (my 511 is a good shooter too) all day long over most any recent production bolt .22. They are classic, GOOD shooters and hard to beat for the money.

I recently impulse-bought a lightly used CZ 452 for $300, thinking I'd use it for a cheap-to-shoot trainer. Factory iron sights are German / Mauser style, and I'm thinking about putting an aperture on it. However, the rifle itself shoots great, trigger is not bad at all, and overall I've been very pleased.

I think for the money CZ makes a superb 22LR in the 452, not sure about the 455's

I have a CZ453. I love it. I have often wondered if it was worth the extra money over the 452. Mine loves Winchester bulk ammo. There a couple after market part makers for triggers, screws, scope bases and stocks. You made a great impulse buy!

2 hunting seasons ago my kids went hunting in the morning with me and then went back to camp. We spent the afternoon in a heated shooting competition with the CZ453. All three kids shot in every position thinkable. We were shooting at 50 yards. Every kids put 5 rounds of Winchester bulk ammo into a plastic water bottle cap while shooting one stage of our impromptu competition.

Later we had the last challenge for "best group" that would decide the match between my three kids. Here was the winning target (5 round group).

Later for the evening hunt Both my children shot their first deer with a head shot. I know it was because they were confident and had shot the CZ453 all day. Its a great rifle, you will love it and have tons of fun with it!

That is what I have been looking for, a 455 or a 452. Really would like a tapped barrel for my sparrow. Buds has a varmint, but it is not tapped. I guess a 100$ could fix that though.

My favorite would be my Savage Mark II TR. Strong second is CZ.

Bought my first rifle last year, just to see if I would like the sport. It was a Savage Mark II TR. I selected the TR because it was "reasonably priced" and had a reputation for being fairly accurate. I liked it so much, I decided to move up to a Savage 10 FCP HS Precision in .308, this year. The TR will still see a lot of use, as I plan to use it as my trainer for the larger rifle. The TR is a fun rifle to shoot and is so much more economical to shoot than the 10 FCP.

Any tried the Savage MK II FVSR. Got to hold one at the LGS, feel kinda small, but the barrel is tapped and it only 239$. Hell its so cheap might as well, my daughter will like in a year or two.

Go for a CZ 452 you can get them pretty cheap and they are great shooters. Steven

The Savage mkII FVSR is a great gun for the money. I've had experience with thee FVSRs now, and all of them have shot great. In fact, I'm shooting a Savage TR right now, and I think it is the least accurate of the four Savages I've shot. That being said, it is still shooting .75 5-shot groups at 50 yds.
I have noticed the Savages really like CCI green tag, and my 452 likes the std velocity cheap box CCI. That makes the Savages twice as expensive too shoot to the same results. This may just be my luck, but there is a noticeable difference between green tag and everything else when shot in my Savage rifles - especially the TR. The CZ 452 does not show the massive differences in different ammo. Again, this may just be my luck.
If you are not in the market for a $400.00 .22 rimfire, I would strongly recommend the FVSR.

Im also a fanboy of the 452. I just bought the American to use suppressed, and love it. Very nice for a factory gun. Likes any ammo I feed it.
