Let me preface by saying I know there are a cazillion posts like this, but I would still like to hear first hand opinions... after all that is what forums are for
Anyways, I have come into a bit of money after a back pay at work, so I thought what better way to spend it then to buy a new rimfire!!!! I figure I have a couple of options with the budget I have set for myself, but I am leaning more towards building up a rifle from scratch:
Buy an affordable .22 (Marlin xt or Savage Mk2)
+ a boyds stock
+ new trigger guard
+ one piece base
+ bipod
+ timney trigger
+ large bolt knob
+ gunsmithing to get bedded and knob installed
So I wanted to hear opinions from others with experience. I already have a very cheap and rugged .22 with a sling, low powered scope and irons that shoots cheap ammo into minute of rabbit at 75 yards and I have a CZ varmint .17hmr in a boyds stock (not bedded) with no extra mods that will shoot about 1-1.5 inch at 100. As such, I don't neeeed another rimfire... but I want one
Really I just want info as to how this sort of thing has worked out for other people, pros and cons, advice on what not to do etc. Any information on good suppliers of the above equipment that ship to Australia would also be welcomed.
At the end of the day, if there is more cons I may consider just saving up for an Anshutz.
Thanks and merry xmas
