Anybody have a good suggestion for .223 hunting/match bullets. Gonna be using them on small Texas Deer and piggies. I've been shooting the 69GN SMK's and some Hornady 77 Match but with the .223 already being small I'm hoping to find a purpose hunting bullet that has near match performance.....In other words I want it all.

Barrel is 1/7 twist

Take a look and see what Nosler Partitions are in your size / weight range. But I would look at something else for paper. Unless cost is no object.

There is only one; 75 Swift Scirocco II. Amazingly accurate, high BC and awesome effect on game. I load it like the 77gr SMK.

One bullet, 85 yards, running 200lbs pig. Dropped right there, perfect expansion.

Hornady's SST series should do what you're looking for. Near match performance with hunting construction toughness.

The 75 Amax is going to do the job for you as well.

Swift's bullets are absolutely top notch, but they're not cheap at all.

Im gonna give the 75 amaxs a try. They shouldn't need to be single loaded out of an ar15 should they? I've shot some of hormadys 75 match and they mag fed

The A-max is a single load affair only. I've shot a ton of them at 600-1000 yards. They are nice and quite accurate, again long-seated.

You are thinking of the 75 HPBT from Hornady and that one can be loaded to mag-length.

I load the 75gr Scirocco to mag-length and found that it was just as accurate as the A-max and possibly more so. They do cost more than match bullets, after all they are hunting bullets and they do more than punch paper.

I use match bullets for matches and hunting bullets for hunting. The match bullets cost me about half of what the hunting bullets do, but I shoot a lot more match bullets than hunting bullets.

That's good info. I as hoping to be Able to use one bullet for all but it doesn't look like it's gonna be easy. I'll pick up some of the scirrocis and have them set aside for hnting and continue pinging steel and paper with the match bullets .

Re: 223 bullets Hunting/Match bullets?

60g hornady vmax, 24.5g benchmark, rem brass cci primers i get consistant sub .50 groups, i have a .236 3 shot group and a .183 beautiful cloverleaf group with this load. gun is a stock rem 700 sps 26" varmint 1-12 in a hogue pillar stock
this load shoots good out to 600 yards. i can hit a 12"x12" steel plate 10 for 10 at 600 yards, 1 mil holdover at 300, 2mil at 500 and 3mil at 600 and it makes an ugly mess of groundhogs

75 gr Amax, 23.4 gr Varget, ~2900 fps out of a 26" barrel. Might wanna use non-Amax bullets if you're using an AR15. I'd also stay clear of Vmax, unless you wanna pick the pieces out of the meat or go for head/neck shots.
