I hope I can get the photo to load correctly. I picked up some range brass and I'm just curious how the verticle lines got into the brass, they are raised bumps I can easily feel with my fingernail. Also, the large dent, could this be used and fire formed out or should I discard brass that damaged?

The vertical lines look like they where made with dirty brass going into a sizing die, its happened to me when I first started reloading.

Yup looks like typical HK style brass. My Cetme does that to .308 brass. It's the way it's ejected and smacks the rifle.
Yep. My HK-91 does that!
It doesn't look like gas blow by due to squeezing the case body inwards, since they're kind of thin.

It is reloadable, but brass in this caliber is readily available enough I'd think you could live without it. I know it's hard to let go.....face it man, you're an addict.

Yup, from an HK fluted chamber. You could reload it and it will pop back out, being it is plentiful, sometimes it is best to add it to the scrap bucket. Maybe that is why it wasn't picked up by the guy that shot it....
What's the theory behind a fluted chamber? Are they suppose to feed better? Some of the lines are pretty pronounced, shows how much pressure a cartrige generates. And yes I am an addict! I think I'll throw those in the "if I'm desperate pile", not ready to let go yet 
HK has claimed it is to aid in extraction, which, may be partially true, but not entirely. Fluted chambers were originally conceived to allow brass flow in order to delay the opening of the action. It is a cost effective way to increase overall reliability since the action can be made to open at a lower pressure. However, it is hard on the brass.
The BCG on a HK-91 is massive and weighs a lot. In the beginning, the BCG was ripping rims off of cases. They needed to do something to fix the issue and I guess a fluted chamber was one of those things.
Most of what you see on an ejected HK-91 fired case, is just soot and after you tumble them clean, you can't tell that they're fired from a fluted chamber. There's probably a bit more stretching, as with any gas gun, but I've reloaded all of my HK-91 brass and it does fine...at least the ones that I could find.

The whole point to the fluted chamber is to make extraction easier with a semi or full auto action that has no slow primary extraction. The flutes allow gas to help "float" the case in the chamber so it won't have a case head separation. When the round is fired in a normal chamber it expands to fill the chamber and also expands rearward til the bolt face stops it. When the normal locked breech rifle is unlocked the pressure has dropped below what will split the case. Usually they have a means of slowly breaking loose the case from the chamber before it extracts and ejects. With the delayed blowback of the HK and SIG roller locked systems the case pushing back against the bolt is what makes it work. Pushing the bolt face back forces the rollers in and that pushes the heavy rear section of the bolt back faster than the bolt head. Once unlocked the momentum of the carrier and the residual pressure in the chamber carry the case and bolt rearward to eject. With this system you either have the case stretching back to push the bolt til it gets to the point where it breaks or you float the case on a cushion of pressurized gas so it will move more freely and the action operates with reliability. The flutes sometimes leave bumps on the brass but just as frequently they leave only black carbon due to the pressure inside and outside being equal. I've reloaded brass from the SIG for years though I only shoot it once in the SIG. After that it goes in the bolt action K31 or one of the earlier types. Trying to get the timing right with powder is an issue with the SIG's if you want to prevent blow-ups and the rifle is worth enough to not want to fiddle. In other words , cases fired in fluted chambers are no problem for reloading though its best for plinking and not serious target shooting.

Yep fluted chamber from and hK probably caused the streaks which though unsightly aren't a problem. They also can be a pain to get off.
That has RECYCLABLE written all over it... Toss it in the scrap brass bucket, that piece of brass is not worth your rifle, limb, eyesight or your life...
clean it and reload it, the dent will iron out and the streaks is just different colour, nothing wrong with the case, i have 3 HK and reload all their brass, the only thing that removes the black streaks is SS media, i dont worry about it, it isnt jewelry
