I have been following the AI .223 conversion thread for a while and was saddened to see that there are no plans to make a conversion for the AXMC. Is there an alternative 22 cartridge that uses a 308 bolt face that isn't a barrel burner? I see the 22 GT and 22 creedmoor but both seem to be barrel burners. Is there another cartridge I should consider or maybe another powder that can be used in either cartridge to keep the velocities below 3000?
I'd be looking to shoot 75-85 grain. This would be used for punching paper.

thanks!

I also think that for 308 bolt head the best trainer cartridge is 308.

308 also gives more recoil which is lacking in 223 and other newer chamberings. Managing recoil is a forgotten art and should have a part in training just like trigger control, cheekweld, position and like.

Managing recoil is a forgotten art .
I am old , I like lack of recoil . I don't believe getting pounded by anything makes for a better shooter . For instance , if a guy is never going to shoot the boomers , why would ever feel he needed to get pounded with something he never intends to shoot ?

Well your the best to judge that.

But same "I like lack of x" applies to other fundamentals too.
-I do not like heavy triggers, my finger gets tired
-I do not like hi/low mag, my aiming is harder
-I do not like shooting from different positions, etc.

But I am way different to you, I am usually the only one who does not complain about recoil, say, in a mosin nagant competition or else. I embrace it and usually start getting it to return to zero in just few shots.

All that said, I believe I still have to learn about managing recoil, you may not! But wanted to point out that you certainly can see the bigger recoil as a bonus if you were looking for that.

Taken to extreme, if you want to maximize training and minimize recoil, there is the .177 air rifle!

Everyone is different , that is for sure . Reminds me of back in the glory days of my youth. I remember coming onto a job as a replacement foreman . I was meeting the guys and came across a guy with a size 58 shirt and a size 2 hard hat . He says , Jack...Jack not name, Jack job . I really liked his spunk , not many guys like running the air hammers .

I will just say it
Barrels are a consumable just like reloading components.
That said the 22GT is amazing to shoot!
Don’t search for high velocity/pressure and barrel life dramatically increases.
